Vinum

A noble Cabernet bouquet straight out of a textbook: blackcurrant, a touch of quince, lavender, with the oak subtly in the background; a fleshy palate, crisp and juicy, building tremendous drive, powerful yet never heavy, with superb acidity and the finest tannins; a finish of great aromatic length. This wine is full of tension and breeding. Top class.

Decanter

Rich blackcurrant aromatics, almost sweet and cool at the same time – smells so welcoming with some cola and flint touches too. The florality though is incredible, so aromatic. Svelte and long, this is focused with a clean, really sapid expression and gorgeous juiciness – almost with a sweetness that just makes you smile before focusing and straightening with a crushed stone aspect on the finish. More red fruits than black like Ferriere. Great construction with such gentle tannins, really quite flawless with a clear cola and flint aspect. A yield of 25hl/ha. Ageing 18 months, 45% new barrels, 40% foudres and 15% in amphoras.

Rosebud, liquorice, beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon character, savoury but super floral and characterful, lots of lift and tension, great quality. There is an edge of austerity that you feel will really benefit from ageing—which is the feel overall of this vintage, where ageing will be important. Harvest September 4 to 24. Yield 25 hl/ha. 45% new oak. 3.7 pH.

Yves Beck

A beautifully intense bouquet with notes of blackcurrant, black pepper and violet, followed by a touch of liquorice. The silky texture of the attack heralds a wine built on elegance. Linear in style, it shows compact, velvety tannins with real definition, providing well-framed vigour. These are matched by a structuring acidity that underpins the freshness and precision on the palate. A sapid, mouth-watering wine.

The natural elegance and restrained power of a great Margaux wine

The estate
Established as a wine estate of excellence in the 17th century in the famous Bordeaux region, Château Durfort-Vivens took on its definitive name in 1824. Classified as a 2nd Grand Cru in 1855, this historic estate was acquired by the Lurton family in 1961. Today, Gonzague Lurton is the current owner and brings genuine environmental momentum to the property. Renowned for its pioneering commitment, the estate stands out for its biodynamic practices, elevating its wines among the purest and most expressive of their appellation.

The vineyard
The terroir extends over an area of 65 hectares spread across the communes of Margaux, Cantenac and Soussans. The vines flourish on soils composed of deep gravel, with a sandy to clayey base. Fully Demeter-certified, the vineyard is managed according to the principles of biodynamic agriculture, with controlled yields of around 25 hectolitres per hectare.

The vintage
The year began with a mild and dry winter, leading to an early bud break in the vines. Flowering took place quickly and evenly. Subsequently, a particularly hot summer favoured strong concentration in the berries. The arrival of rain at the beginning of September was a saving grace, allowing the grapes to soften just before the early harvest, which ran from 4 to 24 September.

Vinification and ageing
The making of this wine relies on meticulous plot-by-plot vinification, carried out without any additives. Extractions are gentle, with a single daily pump-over, while alcoholic and malolactic fermentations extend over 21 days. Ageing then lasts 18 months, divided between 45% new barrels, 40% large casks and 15% TAVA amphorae, bringing unique complexity to the wine. Alcohol: 13% vol.
