Vinum

Expressive and super floral, clear and pure like a mountain stream—blackberries, cassis, violets, lilac, coriander seeds; on the palate, a graceful wine: precise, distinguished, full of finesse, at once energetic while radiating great calm. Every element falls into place; the wine is perfectly proportioned, showing delicate fruit and sensational tannin quality—juicy, long, and balanced. One of the best wines of the year.

Decanter

This La Conseillante captivates with perfumed aromatics of ripe, concentrated dark fruit, soft spices, and dark chocolate. Plump and juicy, it’s sleek, joyous, and fun, with strawberry and cranberry fruit. The texture is light yet fresh, with purity, lift, and exceptional balance. Energetic and focused, it has a touch of sexiness and creaminess, not weight. Bitter orange and salty stone notes add depth. Succulent, clean, and charming, it tapers slightly but remains super bright and accessible, with a touch of chew. Soft, polished tannins, 3.57 pH, blended since January, ageing in 70% new oak and 30% second-fill barrels. Great stuff.

Dark ruby in color, with just a swirl, you find lilacs, violets, chocolate, black cherries, black raspberries, and a hint of truffle that create the intoxicating aromatic profile. Polished, sensuous, and refined, the fruits are vibrant and, more importantly, they possess depth, length, and purity. Medium-bodied, yet not light, the silky finish lingers with grace and refinement. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc. 8% press wine. 13.5% ABV, 3.68 pH. The harvest took place from September 20 to October 4. Drink from 2029-2047. 95-97 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

Opulent, refined, and spicy, the bouquet is warm, almost oriental, with scents of sandalwood, purple flowers (violet, iris), and black fruits, both fresh and ripe. Notes of tar, slate, and pencil lead add an extra layer of complexity. The palate is silky, shimmering, and fleshy, with notes of cassis, blackberry, and blueberry, always with that mineral character perceived on the nose. A flavorful, sophisticated, subtle wine with superb salinity. The juicy, fresh finish caresses the palate like a kitten’s tongue.

Vertdevin

The nose is beautifully fruity, fresh and elegant, offering lovely purity and brightness. It reveals notes of vibrant blackcurrant, pulpy blackberry and, more lightly, elegant/bright strawberry, combined with fine floral hints (lilac, lily), as well as delicate iodized nuances and a discreet touch of graphene. The palate is beautifully guided, supple, fresh, elegant, juicy and pulpy, delivering indulgence, sparkle, brightness and good definition. It shows a lovely fine, fresh texture. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of blueberry, juicy/pulpy blackcurrant and violet, and, more lightly, bright blackcurrant, combined with touches of bright cherry, cornflower and vanilla, as well as fine hints of lilac, nutmeg, graphene, a hint of bergamot and an iodized touch. Good length. The tannins are finely handled, velvety and elongated. A lovely flesh on the palate with fullness. A beautifully crafted wine, fresh and mineral, offering a slight glycerol feel, fresh and enveloping. A subtle cocoa note, energy and a discreet, almost roasted-elegant character. Subtlety. Beautiful aromatic range.

Characteristics and Tasting Advice for Château La Conseillante 2024

Tasting

This vintage charms with its fruity structure, its delicate tannins, and its lingering freshness.

A Pomerol grand cru imbued with elegance and aromatic intensity

The Estate

Created in the 18th century by Catherine Conseillan, Château La Conseillante ranks among the most prestigious references of Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Incorporated into the Nicolas family estate in 1871, it has endured through the ages while continuing to produce exceptional wines.

The Vineyard

The vineyard covers 11.13 hectares at the heart of the Pomerol appellation. The soils consist of 60% grey clay and 40% sandy gravel, offering an exceptional terroir to vines averaging 35 years of age.

The Vintage

The year 2024 was marked by an exceptionally warm winter (+1.3°C) and rainy (785 mm), followed by an early bud break on March 20 and flowering on June 5. The hot, dry summer from mid-July, with 10 days exceeding 30°C in August, promoted a slow véraison for Merlot and a later one for Cabernet Franc. These climatic conditions resulted in grapes of exceptional quality, harvested between September 20 and October 4.

Winemaking and Aging

Plot-based winemaking is carried out in 22 temperature-controlled, epoxy-coated concrete vats and 5 raw concrete micro-vats. After a 5-day cold pre-fermentation maceration, the maceration period lasts 28 to 30 days. 5% of the production is made via whole-cluster fermentation. Aging takes place over 15 months, with 70% in new French oak barrels and 30% in one-wine barrels, allowing the wine to develop its aromatic complexity.

Blend

80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
