Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Robert M. Parker, Jr.

A soft, easygoing wine, the 2003 La Lagune displays lots of balsam wood, black cherry and earthy notes. Dark ruby-colored with a pink rim, it is a lively, fresh Haut-Medoc with some acidity in the background. The tannins are totally resolved and the wine is medium-bodied. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.

A good wine with berry, herb and cherry character. Medium body, medium tannins and a clean finish. Best after 2007. 12,500 cases made.

89-91 A big chunky wine which still has grace and elegance along with the power. This is an excellent performance from a property which is worth watching.

A rich and ripe nose of dried fruits, figs and spices with hints of cedar. Full body, a juicy fruit character and soft tannins. Lots of pretty fruit. Lightly earthy tobacco undertones. Still fresh. Gorgeous now to drink.

Quite charming, with its supple textures, floral, earth, tobacco and cherry filled nose ending with soft, sweet, black raspberries. This is drinking in the sweet spot today.

Deep garnet. Dull bouquet, sweaty leather, currants, very profound. On the palate, more positive impressions, medium-bodied, muscular, lacking flesh in the mid-palate. When will Lagune’s great vintages return?

04: Deep garnet. Muted bouquet, sweaty leather, currants, very profound. On the palate, it gives a more positive impression; medium-bodied, shows muscle, but lacks flesh through the mid-palate. When will the great La Lagune finally be back? 09: Lightening garnet. Slightly sweet bouquet with cherry and vanilla aromas, with pronounced toasty notes. Mid-palate: lots of chewy, gritty tannins make this otherwise slim, elegant wine feel brutal. Will it ever find its balance? Or did they simply try to do too much here?

Deep colour, a particularly smooth texture, but with tannins coming through on the finish, dry and firm in character.

A beautiful bright red color. Dark. Medium to good intensity. Aromas of medium intensity. Refined. Nuanced and fruity. With aeration, notes of very ripe fruit. An exotic touch. A very lovely softness on the attack. Then the wine keeps its flesh, becomes flavorful, retains its fruit, takes on plum and licorice notes, Margaux-style, and finishes tasty and long without a hint of oak or harsh tannins. It’s very good, although not yet quite fully dense.
