A Tribute to the Heritage of Saint-Julien in an Exceptional Setting
The Estate
The Château Lagrange is one of the iconic references of the Saint-Julien appellation. The estate has very ancient origins, as early as the Gallo-Roman period, when the site was home to the “Villa Rustica”. It was later the Order of the Knights Templar that initiated the estate’s winemaking activity. Château Lagrange experienced a true golden age in the 18th century and earned the title of 3rd Cru Classé in the Official Classification of 1855. In 1983, Château Lagrange became part of the Japanese Suntory group under the leadership of its president, Keizo Saji. Following an extensive renovation and investment program alongside the arrival of a dynamic team, Château Lagrange rose to the top of Médoc wines.
The Vineyard
Exceptional, the vineyard of Château Lagrange covers 118 hectares of vines in a single block. This Saint-Julien vineyard enjoys a superb location on two Gunzian-origin Graves ridges. The vines average 45 years of age. They are oriented north-south and planted on siliceous-gravelly soils with a clay-limestone subsoil. The vineyard benefits from a temperate, oceanic climate.
The Wine
Building on the series of limited editions crafted by the estate in recent years, the Collection Héritage takes its origins from the historic plots that were part of the estate when the property was acquired by the Suntory Group in 1983.
Aiming to combine the heritage of the past with the achievements of the present, this cuvée reveals, in an unprecedented Blend, the identity of the estate’s original 56 hectares alongside the knowledge and expertise acquired over four decades.
The Médoc-based company Adam, renowned for its environmental and CSR policy as well as its quality standards, has crafted an elegant wooden case housing a magnum whose shape echoes the old Bordeaux bottles.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by rainfall concentrated mainly outside the vegetative growth period, allowing for optimal replenishment of the soil’s water reserves. This early, warm year promoted perfect grape ripening. The harvest took place under ideal conditions, with grapes in exceptional health and remarkable generosity.
Vinification and Aging
The vinification of the Collection Héritage benefitted from a meticulous parcel-by-parcel approach, with a record 113 lots enabling a Blend of unparalleled precision. This exceptional cuvée reflects the estate’s uncompromising pursuit of excellence, with particular attention to detail to fully express the character of the terroir.
Grape Varieties
Cabernet Sauvignon (54%) and Merlot (46%).
