Vinum

Complex nose with floral notes and clove, with ripe blackcurrant fruit in the background; on the palate, generous fruit with still noticeable oak, very good structure and fine, grainy tannins; the finish is red-fruited and very spicy. Should gain further with ageing.

Decanter

Woody and overly dry from the get go, very tannic and filling with an initial fruitiness that fades quite quickly. Seems they struggled here or it’s just super compact and tight right now as there is some cooling, fresh blueberry juice underneath. A bit potent and highly charged at the moment. Tight and clipped on the finish.

Floral aromas lead the way, followed by notes of licorice, espresso, currants, black cherries, and hints of cocoa. The palate is round, creamy, fruity, juicy, ripe, sweet, and fresh, delivering layers of chocolate-tinged plums, currants, and cherries, finished with a refreshing touch of mint at the very end. Drink from 2030-2055. 93-95 Pts

Deep and intense plum colour, grilled sandalwood and cedar, dried oregano and cranberry fruit, with firm tannins that offer Left Bank architecture but the acidity needs to soften further. Yield 25 hl/ha

Yves Beck

Tasted on three occasions, this Malescot surprised me somewhat in the way it gradually revealed itself. It was the third sample that ultimately won me over. My thanks to dear Gilles Pouget for his patience and kindness. The bouquet takes its time to emerge, showing nuances of cocoa, caramel and liquorice, before giving centre stage to notes of blackcurrant along with a touch of black pepper. Generous on the attack, the wine is driven by silky tannins. They bring power, supported by a structuring acidity that ensures freshness and verve. The elements present still need to settle into place and create harmony, but the foundations are firmly laid. Ageing will help weave everything together and fulfil the ambitions on display. The finish reveals fruity nuances and freshness, neatly reinforcing and underscoring the pleasures to come.

Deep, dark colour. Medium-intensity nose with very ripe fruit aromas. A touch of spice emerges when the glass is swirled. Caressing on the attack, fleshy and spicy on the mid-palate, the wine develops into a supple, enveloping finish packed with flavour. Good length. Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 14%. Yield: 25 hl/ha.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Malescot St Exupéry 2025

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a color that is both radiant and deeply intense.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is particularly expressive, offering lovely freshness along with remarkable balance.

Palate
From the very first impression, a pleasant acidity emerges, supporting a very long-lasting finish. The tannins, though youthful, already display a fine suppleness. The texture is silky and coats the palate, delivering a profile that brilliantly combines elegance and richness, all carried by a constant freshness.

Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with robust meats such as beef or game. It will also enhance a roasted leg of lamb served with gratin dauphinois. For more delicate dishes, poultry or fine fish served with a light sauce will be excellent choices, as will a selection of aged cheeses with mineral notes.

Serving and cellaring
Château Malescot St Exupéry 2025 is crafted for aging. Thanks to its structure and balance, it has outstanding cellaring potential that will reward patient enthusiasts wishing to keep it for many years in the cellar.

A radiant and elegant Margaux from Château Malescot St Exupéry

The estate
Located in the renowned wine region of Bordeaux, Château Malescot St Exupéry was founded in 1616. In 1697, the estate was sold to Simon Malescot, advisor to King Louis XIV. In 1827, the Count of Saint-Exupéry, great-grandfather of the famous aviator, acquired the property. Over three centuries old and classified as a Third Growth, the estate boasts one of the finest terroirs of Margaux, an iconic appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. This historic estate covers forty-five hectares, of which twenty-eight form the core of production. Today, Jean-Luc Zuger is the current owner and manages the estate, continuing the commitment initiated by his family in the 1950s. Under his leadership, the estate has regained its prestige, producing wines that fully express the richness of their terroir with internationally recognized quality.

The vineyard
The vines enjoy a prime location within the Margaux appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. South-facing and overlooking the Gironde estuary, the terroir is mainly composed of Pyrenean gravel mixed with clay, chalk, and iron-rich deposits. This geology ensures excellent drainage while retaining freshness. The vineyard features a high planting density of ten thousand vines per hectare, with vines averaging thirty-five years of age, thus promoting berry concentration.

The vintage
The year was marked by demanding and relentless weather conditions. Despite these climatic challenges, the growing cycle was successfully completed, and the harvest took place under the best conditions between September 18 and 29. Alcohol: 14% vol.

Winemaking and aging
For this thirty-sixth vintage crafted with the help of consultant Michel Rolland, the harvest was carried out manually in small crates. Rigorous sorting was performed directly in the vineyard and then in the cellar. Alcoholic fermentation took place over a period of eight to twelve days in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The wine was then aged for fourteen to sixteen months in French oak barrels, 45% of which were new. The wine rested on its fine lees with bâtonnage operations and was bottled without fining or filtration.

Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 34% merlot, and 6% petit verdot.
