A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé combining freshness and expression of a great limestone terroir

The estate

Tracing its origins to 1513, Château Soutard is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. This estate, located on the limestone plateau, has undergone a remarkable evolution since its creation as an agricultural operation. The current château, built in 1741 by Marie Couture, bears witness to this rich history. Château Soutard has been owned since 2006 by the insurance company AG2R LA MONDIALE.

The vineyard

Château Soutard's vineyard covers 35 contiguous hectares on the limestone plateau of the northern slope of Saint-Émilion. This privileged position on an clay-limestone soil imparts to the wines their distinctive character, marked by beautiful freshness and typical minerality. The estate has undertaken a significant restructuring of its vineyard, adopting sustainable viticultural practices that respect this exceptional terroir.

The vintage

The year 2024 was characterized by an oceanic climate with 60% more rainfall compared to the ten-year average. After a particularly mild autumn and winter, spring and summer proved rather cool. The vegetative cycle was the longest observed in 10 years, with a late bud break, an extended flowering period and heterogeneous ripening.

Winemaking and ageing

Ageing is carried out 50% in new barrels, 20% in one-year-old barrels and 30% in oak foudres. This latter practice, introduced in 2017, helps preserve the freshness and authenticity of Saint-Émilion’s limestone terroir.

Blend

Merlot (48%), Cabernet Franc (32%), Cabernet Sauvignon (13%) and Malbec (7%).
