Description

The opulence and depth of a great Saint-Emilion wine

As a prestigious estate on the Right Bank, Château Troplong Mondot is one of those emblematic names that make the picturesque vineyards of Saint-Emilion a benchmark in the world today.

Château Troplong Mondot's great wine is a First Great Classified Growth B and produced in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation. It is a blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2008 vintage was marked by exceptional weather conditions with mild temperatures in the summer that preserved the aromatic intensity of the berries and then followed by a gradual and optimal ripening of the grapes in September and October. It was an unusual year with the harvest taking place in mid-October, and then the last plot of Cabernet Sauvignon being harvested in November. This is something that has never happened in 20 years! The 2008 vintage is special for Château Troplong Mondot since the estate made first use of its new vat room consisting of small temperature-controlled truncated vats that facilitates tailor-made micro-vinification of vineyard parcels

Château Troplong Mondot 2008 reveals a deep red colour with great intensity. On the nose, it is a surprising wine with a complex olfactory palette that evolves with ripe black fruit, tasty bitter cocoa and liquorice notes, and hints of anise. The oak ageing brings light spicy notes without hiding the purity of the fruit nor the typical minerality of Saint-Emilion’s clay-limestone soil. On the palate, the wine reveals great opulence both for taste and texture. The olfactory notes are confirmed on the palate through the delicacy of ripe black fruit and the hints of liquorice on the finish. A complex and powerful wine ready to be appreciated now, and will peak from 2025 to 2030.
