Decanter

Purple flowers and dark black fruit aromas. Rich in flavour, this is full of life, energy and depth with a soft chew to the tannins and ripe fleshy fruit but keeping a chalky cool element. Mouthfilling and very St-Julien this year – ripe and charming, friendly, so approachable – like a big hug. Juicy and mouthwatering though, this makes you smile! I love it, much more demonstrative than Le Petit right now. Gorgeous.

Floral, spicy, and tobacco-stained, you also find currants, blackberries, licorice, cocoa, and a touch of espresso beans in the perfume. Vibrant, energetic, red, with dark pit fruits, freshness, and refinement, creating the palate. The finish packs a good punch with its blackberries, chocolate, and currant profile that starts off strong and keeps on going. The wine blends 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc. 13.6% ABV. Drink from 2030-2050. 92-94 Pts

Brambled fruit on the nose, full of hawthorn and hedgerow fruits, shot through with blackcurrant pastille and incense, crab apple, grip and slate-textured minerality, will soften further over ageing, has the austerity that you hope for at this early stage of the Las Cases stable. Clos du Marquis reveals itself with delicacy and depth from the outset, through nuances of black cherries, plums, spices and graphite, before highlighting its freshness with hints of mint. Smooth on the attack, the wine stands out for its serenity, power and quiet strength. The tannins emerge late, delivering a structured power, alongside a piercing acidity that underscores its character and freshness. An imposing, vibrant, elegant and persistent wine that once again highlights its greatness and authenticity. I

Deep, intense, purplish-red color with bright highlights. Very aromatic nose, with ripe fruit, alongside notes of cocoa and violet. Precise on the attack and through the mid-palate, with a graceful texture, the wine stretches out into a long finish—powerful, fleshy, complex, and above all impossible to spit out. This is very good. Blend: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.6% - pH: 3.57 - IPT: 78. Yield: 24 hl/ha.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Clos du Marquis 2025

Tasting

Appearance
The robe reveals a deep purple-red hue, leaning towards an intense cherry-black with a dark core.

Nose
The bouquet is bright and delicate, releasing aromas of perfectly ripe black fruits such as cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant. Stunning floral notes of iris and violet intertwine with hints of graphite, liquorice, cocoa and sweet spices.

Palate
Ample and refined, the palate offers a juicy texture with multiple dimensions. The tannins, displaying great finesse, support a profile that is both dense and elegant. A beautiful mineral tension brings freshness, leading to a long and distinguished finish.

Food and wine pairings
This great red wine will pair wonderfully with grilled red meats or those served in sauce, as well as with roast lamb accompanied by mint. It will also enhance characterful game such as wild boar or venison, while complementing more delicate poultry such as pheasant, quail or pigeon.

Serving and cellaring
Clos du Marquis 2025 reveals excellent cellaring potential and can be kept in the cellar to be enjoyed until around 2040. In its youth, it is strongly recommended to decant it between three and six hours before tasting. The ideal serving temperature is around 15.5°C.

The elegance and precision of a great Saint-Julien wine

The estate
Founded in 1902, Clos du Marquis has a distinct identity within the Bordeaux region. Often wrongly mistaken for a second wine, this exceptional cru comes from a specific terroir, separate from the famous Léoville Las Cases enclosure. Today, the estate is run by Jean-Hubert Delon, representative of the Delon family, the sole owner. With a vineyard of around 40 hectares, this estate produces wines of remarkable quality, regularly rivalling the greatest classified growths of its appellation thanks to rigorous and passionate management.

The vineyard
The heart of the vineyard stretches over about forty hectares on the prestigious Saint-Julien plateau, at an altitude of around twenty metres. Located to the west of the Grand Enclos of Las Cases, the vines flourish on Quaternary gravel soils, older and finer than those of their neighbour. This unique terroir is also composed of humic podzols resting on sandy-clay gravels. The significant presence of organic matter on the surface, a legacy of ancient forests, contributes greatly to the unique identity of the grapes harvested.

The vintage
The growing season was marked by a warm and sunny climate. To cope with these conditions, meticulous work was carried out in the vineyards throughout the cycle. The teams notably opted for higher trimming and trellising to increase shading on the vines. This approach effectively protected the bunches from intense heat while preserving the natural balance of the fruit until harvest, which took place from 8 to 20 September.

Winemaking and aging
Clos du Marquis 2025 is aged over a period of sixteen months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. This measured proportion of new wood allows the wine's aromatic complexity and structure to develop while respecting the pure expression of its terroir. ABV: 13.6% vol.

Grape varieties
This blend is made up of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.
