Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Meursault Village "Les Narvaux" 2022 Domaine Caroline Frey
Tasting
Colour
With a brilliant golden colour, this wine reveals itself to be both clear and bright.
Nose
Showing beautiful elegance, the nose reveals delicate notes of white flowers and candied citrus peel, subtly underscored by delicately toasted nutty aromas.
Palate
The palate offers a complex texture in which floral touches intertwine with fresh butter and dried fruit notes. The finish, structured by the limestone terroir, brings a pleasant lemony freshness.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs perfectly with Burgundian cuisine, such as parsleyed ham or soft cheeses like Époisses. It also wonderfully accompanies white fish or seafood in creamy sauce, as well as poultry roasted with butter and herbs.
Serving and Storage
For an optimal tasting experience, this wine should be served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. It can be enjoyed now but will continue to develop favourably in the cellar until around 2028.
The elegance and minerality of a Meursault white wine by Domaine Caroline Frey
The Estate
Officially founded in 2015, Domaine Caroline Frey is located in Aloxe-Corton, France, in the heart of Burgundy. Recognisable by its château with glazed tiles, the estate spans seven hectares. Caroline Frey, owner and winemaker, has instilled an environmentally friendly philosophy, leading the estate to organic certification in 2021. Following health concerns, she has announced her withdrawal from operational management as of 2026, entrusting communications in particular to her sister Delphine, while maintaining a strong connection with her land.
The Vineyard
The Les Narvaux climat enjoys a privileged geographical position within the Meursault appellation. Overlooking the Premiers Crus plots, this terroir benefits from an ideal south and south-east exposure for grape ripening. The vines, with an average age of around fifty years following replanting in the 1970s, thrive on soils composed of stones and a clay-limestone matrix, offering optimal drainage and a distinctive minerality.
The Vintage
The year 2022 began with a rainy winter, allowing the soils to replenish their water reserves. The cooler months of February and March delayed budbreak and protected the vines from spring frost. May, particularly warm, favoured excellent flowering. Despite a summer marked by intense heat, saving nocturnal rains in early September allowed the berries to reach a fine balance between ripeness and acidity before the harvest.
Winemaking and Ageing
The making of this wine relies on a minimally interventionist approach. Whole clusters are slowly pressed before a twenty-four-hour settling period. Alcoholic fermentation takes place under temperature control using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (25 to 30% new wood) for fifteen to eighteen months. During this period, regular lees stirring and malolactic fermentation enrich the wine's texture before racking and bottling at the estate.
