Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2024 from Domaine Cordier Père et Fils
Tasting notes
Appearance
The glass reveals a pale yellow to light golden yellow hue, enhanced by subtle greenish reflections.
Nose
Highly intense, the nose combines crisp freshness with rich complexity. It exhales aromas of ripe yellow fruits and citrus, harmoniously paired with notes of brown butter, clove and a smoky touch reminiscent of gunflint.
Palate
Full and nuanced, the palate seduces with its creamy texture and indulgent flavours of yellow apple, apricot, vanilla and toasted nuts. The whole is perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity that carries the wine towards a long, harmonious and deeply mineral finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with fine poached or pan-seared fish served with a beurre blanc sauce, seafood, or white meats in sauce, such as poultry with morel mushrooms.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine between 10 and 13°C, after a light decanting or one hour of aeration in the glass. This Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2024 can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop in the cellar until around 2036.
A full-bodied and lively Pouilly-Fuissé wine
The estate
Founded in 1945 in Fuissé, Domaine Cordier Père et Fils is an iconic figure of Burgundy in France, located in the heart of the Mâconnais. Now led by Christophe Cordier, this family estate covers 31.5 hectares spread across more than a hundred parcels. Renowned for its approach combining ancestral techniques and cutting-edge equipment, the estate stands out for its deep environmental commitment, crowned by an organic farming certification from the 2024 harvest onwards. Its wines, of great precision, rival the most prestigious crus of the region.
The vineyard
This Pouilly-Fuissé comes from the prestigious Vers les Cras climat, promoted to Premier Cru in 2020. Located on the boundary between Fuissé and Solutré, this small 0.89-hectare east-facing parcel rests on white limestone soils. The very old vines, 85 years of age, are cultivated with extremely low yields of 20 hectolitres per hectare. The soil is worked by horse, with the utmost respect for biodiversity and biodynamic principles.
Winemaking and ageing
Manual harvesting at high maturity is followed by gentle whole-cluster pressing. The juices of this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2024 are transferred by gravity for natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place on full lees for about a year in barrels (of which 30% are new oak), before a refining stage in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled by gravity, without fining and with a very light filtration.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
