Description
The intensity and richness of a Languedoc red wine
The estate
Owners of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, the JM Cazes family acquired the Domaine de l'Ostal in 2002.
Located between Carcassonne and Narbonne, this property oversees a 60-hectare vineyard. The Cazes family has carried out major restructuring of the vineyard in order to produce great Languedoc wines.
The wines of Domaine de l'Ostal Cazes are renowned for their harmonious combination of liveliness, aromatic richness and freshness.
The vineyard
The Grand Vin 2018 of Domaine de l'Ostal is a Minervois La Livinière wine made from plots of Mourvèdre planted in 4 hamlets: Soulairol, La Touge, Gieules and Estibals. The vineyards are planted on marl soils made up of limestone sandstone.
The vintage
Temperatures at the end of 2017 were average, followed by low rainfall. The first quarter of 2018 was milder and had more rainfall than normal. Budburst occurred in the first week of April. The stormy rainfall and alternating hot and cold temperatures in May helped to maintain a substantial water reserve in the soils, providing all the resources necessary for optimal vine development.
Winemaking and ageing
The fermentation process took place during 1 week, followed by a maceration over a period of 20 to 23 days. The wine was aged in barrels of 2 wines.
Blend
Syrah (70%)
Carignan (15%)
