Aromas of fresh citron, white pepper, bay leaves and fresh herbs. It’s medium-bodied with a creamy texture. Round with volume and a saline character toward the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold.

30% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette, 15% Viognier, 15% Marsanne, 15% Roussanne, 3% Piquepoul and 2% Bourboulenc. Aged 10% in oak casks, 90% in tanks. Certified organic and biodynamic (Demeter). Tasted blind. The nose has a nutty note and golden fruit. Pear, honey and a mineral streak beneath. Nice acidity gives this direction and freshness. (AC)

Showing more ripeness and substance than the 2021, the 2022 Lirac Blanc La Reine des Bois is concentrated and refreshing. Laced with ripe pear, white peach, green apple and honeysuckle aromas, the medium-bodied 2022 packs a clean texture and a bright finale.

Bright young straw colour with a green hue. The nose blends garrigue, fennel and citrus with bolder yellow fruit. Rounded and generous palate with good volume, well-balanced extract and acidity, generous and long finish.

Wine Enthusiast

A.C.C.

Made from 30% Grenache blanc, 20% Clairette, with the remainder other white Rhône varieties, this wine presents delicate, tart Meyer lemon, lime and white-peach aromas. It is linear, revealing layers with time in the decanter. Fresh almonds encased in lemongrass, citrus pith and light brioche make for a complex palate. Its pithiness should contrast nicely against rich, buttery sauces.

The 2022 Lirac Blanc La Reine des Bois shows a bit more honeyed richness on the nose and a touch of apricot-like Viognier character. Medium to full-bodied, it's a plusher example, round in the mouth and long on the finish.

Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of "La Reine des Bois" Lirac Blanc 2022 by Domaine de la Mordorée

Tasting Notes

Appearance

The wine reveals a radiant golden hue, enhanced by delicate green reflections that reflect its beautiful youth.

Nose

Remarkably rich, the aromatic bouquet opens with luscious aromas of yellow and white fruits such as peach, apricot and pear. It then evolves towards refreshing citrus notes, mingled with subtle floral touches of acacia and verbena, all underpinned by a minerality with accents of wet stone.

Palate

Full-bodied and endowed with superb roundness, the palate offers perfectly integrated acidity that brings great freshness. The fruity flavours unfold with intensity, accompanied by a fine salinity. The finish, of remarkable length and great elegance, concludes on a delicate bitterness reminiscent of grapefruit.

Food and Wine Pairings

Extremely versatile, this white wine pairs wonderfully with delicate fish such as sole with baby vegetables or turbot, as well as with a fine seafood platter. It also brilliantly accompanies white meats, such as roast chicken with herbs, dishes with beurre blanc sauce, lightly spiced Asian cuisine, or hard cheeses and white-rind cheeses.

Serving and Cellaring

Endowed with exceptional ageing potential, the Lirac Blanc "La Reine des Bois" 2022 can be enjoyed now or cellared until around 2029.

The crystalline expression of a great white wine from the Rhône Valley

The Estate

Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme, the Domaine de la Mordorée is located in Tavel, at the heart of the southern Rhône Valley. Swiftly propelled to the ranks of the world's elite wine producers thanks to the visionary work of Christophe Delorme, the estate is today brilliantly led by his wife Madeleine and his daughter Ambre. Faithful to its motto extolling the love of the land, this estate of some fifty hectares stands out for its deep commitment to biodiversity and respectful farming practices, producing cuvées of exceptional quality.

The Vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from the Lirac appellation. This singular terroir is characterised by soils made up of sand, red clay and the famous rolled pebbles once carried by the river. Under a warm and dry Mediterranean climate, these vines benefit from meticulous care and exclusively manual harvesting, allowing rigorous selection of the finest berries at optimal ripeness.

The Vintage

The 2022 vintage stands out for its relatively cool climatic profile compared with previous years. These particular weather conditions helped preserve a beautiful natural acidity within the berries, while ensuring optimal ripeness, yielding grapes of remarkable texture and roundness.

Winemaking and Ageing

The crafting of the Lirac Blanc "La Reine des Bois" 2022 is based on a minimally interventionist philosophy. After a direct and gentle pressing accompanied by skin maceration, fermentation takes place spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts, under strict temperature control. Ageing then unfolds for 90% in stainless steel tanks and 10% in neutral wooden barrels, in order to bring subtle textural complexity without masking the brilliance of the fruit.

Grape Varieties

30% Grenache Blanc, 20% Clairette, 15% Viognier, 15% Roussanne, 15% Marsanne, 3% Picpoul and a touch of Bourboulenc.
