Description
A village-level Meursault shaped by the diversity of climats of the Domaine du Château de Meursault
The estate
The Domaine du Château de Meursault lies in the Côte de Beaune, in Burgundy, and owes its modern revival to André Boisseaux, who in 1973 bought the château and had it fully restored, turning it into one of the region's great wine estates. Since 2012, the domaine has been owned by the Halley family, with Stéphane Follin-Arbelet serving as general manager. The vineyard, which extends over approximately 67 hectares, is now farmed organically and comes with a remarkable heritage, including Cistercian cellars and a monopole clos planted with Chardonnay.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from several climats within the Meursault village appellation, including Les Grands Charrons, Les Dressolles, Limozin, Meix Chavaux, Ormeaux and Sous la Velle. The soils are clay-limestone, shallow and well drained, with mainly east and south-east-facing exposures. The vineyard is farmed organically, with practices such as Poussard pruning, cover crops planted between the rows and limited use of machinery, as part of a comprehensive approach to preserving the soils and biodiversity.
Vinification and ageing
To produce the Meursault Village "du Château" 2025, the grapes are hand-harvested in small perforated crates, then carefully sorted before a gentle, gradual pressing. After settling, the clear juices are fermented in French oak barrels using indigenous yeasts, with each climat vinified separately. Ageing then continues on the lees, with roughly one third new oak, and bâtonnage is not carried out systematically, in order to preserve the balance between richness and freshness.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay.
