The estate
In the Côte de Beaune, in Meursault, Domaine du Château de Meursault is one of the legendary wine estates of Burgundy. Enjoying over 1000 years of history, Domaine du Château de Meursault is a true Burgundian treasure and is currently owned by the Halley family.
The Domaine du Château de Meursault watches over an exceptional vineyard in the Côte d'Or, spread over 65 hectares from Puligny-Montrachet to Aloxe-Corton.
The vineyard
A reference among fine Savigny-Les-Beaune wines, this 2019 1er cru "Les Peuillets" by the Domaine du Château de Meursault stems from an east-facing terroir. This 1.62-hectare vineyard spreads over 2 parcels and is planted at the bottom of the hillside on slightly stony clay-limestone soil.
The wine
2019 is the estate’s first vintage to bear the Organic certification.
The 2019 vintage
2019 is one of the latest vintages. Indeed, despite a warm autumn and winter compared to the normal season, the April frost affected certain plots and the vegetative cycle was considerably slowed down. It was not until mid-May that the sunshine lead to a resumption of the growing cycle. July and August were dry and hot, with three successive heatwaves, little rainfall and storms. The sun and wind helped to concentrate the sugar and acid levels in the grapes. The excellent condition of the foliage led to regular photosynthesis, enabling the Pinot Noir grapes to significantly gain both concentration and ripeness. Harvesting was carried out from September 10th to September 21st.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes were destemmed. Cold pre-fermentation maceration for 15 to 18 days and alcoholic fermentation for 5 to 6 days. The wine is aged for 15 months in barrels (30% of which are new), in second to third-fill barrels and in stainless steel tanks.
