Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Peuillets" 2024 from Domaine du Château de Meursault
Tasting Notes
Appearance
A brilliant, vivid ruby hue that may evolve towards deep garnet reflections.
Nose
The bouquet opens with an elegant expression of fresh red fruits, evoking cherry and raspberry. It is enriched with delicate floral touches of violet, underscored by a subtle minerality and light spicy notes.
Palate
The attack is lively and imbued with beautiful freshness. The palate reveals a well-balanced, round texture, supported by fine, supple and silky tannins. The tasting lingers into a persistent finish, marked by subtle mineral and spicy nuances.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with white meats, such as roasted poultry or poultry in creamy sauce, as well as with braised veal. It also pairs beautifully with delicate game, lamb, or sautéed wild mushrooms. When it comes to cheese, it enhances both soft, creamy varieties (Brie de Meaux, Reblochon) and more characterful cheeses (Époisses, Langres).
Serving and Cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Peuillets" 2024 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, taking care to decant it just before serving or to open it an hour beforehand. Although already appealing in its youth, this vintage can also be cellared and enjoyed until around 2031.
The Freshness and Elegance of a Red Burgundy Wine
The Estate
Founded in the 11th century, Domaine du Château de Meursault is an iconic institution of Burgundy. Located in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, in France, this prestigious estate spans approximately 65 hectares across more than 110 parcels. Taken over in late 2012 by the Halley family, with Olivier Halley as its current owner, the estate combines a thousand-year-old heritage with innovation. Under the leadership of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, the vineyard has been fully certified organic since 2022 and stands out for its pioneering agroecological practices, aimed at preserving the excellence and resilience of its outstanding terroirs.
The Vineyard
The "Les Peuillets" climat is located in the northwest of the Côte de Beaune, in the commune of Savigny-Les-Beaune. Planted at a moderate altitude of between 200 and 240 metres, the vines benefit from an ideal due-east exposure. They thrive on well-drained soils composed of limestone mixed with clay, as well as sandy and stony schist. Farmed organically, this terroir is carefully and individually monitored by the estate's winegrowers, ensuring the health of the vines and the quality of the grapes.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was marked by unpredictable and unsettled weather. The wet spring led to high disease pressure, particularly from mildew, which affected yields. However, the return of regular, mild sunshine in September allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness. As a result, the harvest took place under favourable conditions, yielding healthy and well-balanced fruit.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for this Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Peuillets" 2024 are hand-harvested, followed by rigorous optical sorting. In the cellar, the berries undergo a five-day cold pre-fermentation maceration to gently extract colour and aromas. Fermentation then proceeds slowly, with limited punching down and pumping over to favour tannin finesse. The wine is finally transferred into oak barrels for ageing.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
