Characteristics and tasting tips for the Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott Saint-Joseph 2023

Serving and cellaring

This Saint-Joseph 2023 reveals excellent ageing potential. It can be kept in the cellar and enjoyed until around 2038.

A Saint-Joseph Syrah combining finesse and balance

The estate

Located in Ampuis, at the heart of the Rhône Valley, this estate was officially founded in 2015 by its current owners, Graeme and Julie Bott. Born of a truly shared passion and initially started in a simple garage, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott today extends over around twelve hectares of vines. The winegrowing couple, bringing together Rhône and New Zealand roots, tend their plots by hand with a strong ecological sensibility. The estate stands out for its determination to express the purity of the historic schist and granite terroirs.

The vineyard

The grapes for this Saint-Joseph come from vines around twenty years old, planted in the villages of Chavanay, Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf and Talencieux. This terroir is defined by its granite soils. Planting density is demanding, reaching 8,000 vines per hectare, which encourages a fine concentration in the berries.

Vinification and ageing

The harvest for this Saint-Joseph 2023 is carried out by hand, followed by a rigorous double sorting performed directly in the vineyard and then upon arrival at the winery. Vinification includes 30% whole clusters and relies on a cold maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, using exclusively indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine benefits from a careful 15-month ageing in French oak barrels.
