Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of La Côte des Monts Damnés 2024 from Domaine Henri Bourgeois

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a pale straw-yellow colour, clear, bright and beautifully limpid.

Nose
Remarkably refined, the nose unveils a complex bouquet blending exotic fruit aromas, such as passion fruit and pineapple, with vibrant citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit. Subtle hints of fresh herbs intertwine with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of gunflint.

Palate
The attack is crisp, giving way to a structured palate with a precise texture and lovely energy. Flavours of honey and ripe citrus balance a refreshing acidity, leading to a long, crunchy and deeply mineral finish.

Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with oysters, seafood or fish, whether grilled or served in sauce. It also goes very well with white meats such as veal escalope, lightly spiced exotic dishes, as well as goat cheeses like Crottin de Chavignol or hard cheeses such as Munster.

Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy La Côte des Monts Damnés 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 12 °C. This wine for cellaring can be enjoyed in its youth for its freshness but will continue to gain in complexity until around 2034.

A great white wine from Sancerre with a pure and mineral expression

The estate
Officially founded in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois from a modest hectare and a half, Domaine Henri Bourgeois is an emblematic figure of the Loire Valley in France. Today, the estate is led by the Bourgeois family, notably Jean-Marie, Arnaud, Lionel, Jean-Christophe and Rémi. The vineyard spans 72 hectares across great terroirs. Drawing on a family heritage that began in 1696, the estate stands out for its pursuit of excellence, its respect for living ecosystems and its recent full conversion to organic farming.

The vineyard
Located in the commune of Chavignol, this exceptional Sancerre terroir rests on Kimmeridgian marl soils, often referred to as terres blanches. The plot benefits from a steep slope facing south to south-east, providing optimal sun exposure and natural drainage. Cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, the vines thrive in a preserved ecosystem where spontaneous grass cover and microbial soil life are encouraged. Due to the steep incline, yields are naturally limited and harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand.

Winemaking and aging
The grapes, harvested at full maturity, undergo a gentle pressing to extract the juices delicately. After cold settling, La Côte des Monts Damnés 2024 is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity. This Sancerre blanc then benefits from an extended aging on fine lees for approximately nine to ten months, giving it added complexity and texture.
