Characteristics and tasting advice for Grand Rochoy 2024 from Domaine Laporte
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful pale yellow color with golden highlights, sometimes enhanced by subtle green reflections.
Nose
With great aromatic finesse, the bouquet reveals delicate peppery notes combined with aromas of yellow fruits. Floral touches, citrus notes such as lemon and grapefruit, along with herbal and mineral nuances, complete this complex aromatic profile.
Palate
The tasting offers superb breadth and great richness, supported by perfect balance. The lively acidity brings a fine tension to the whole, highlighting the purity of the fruit with no tannic presence.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with seafood such as grilled lobster, spiny lobster, or raw oysters. It also enhances fish dishes like roasted turbot or sole, as well as refined white meats and the famous local goat cheese, Crottin de Chavignol.
Service and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Sancerre Blanc 2024, serving between 12 and 14°C is recommended. Brief aeration in the bottle before tasting allows the aromas to open up. With remarkable aging potential, this wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2034.
The elegance of a Loire white wine by Domaine Laporte
The estate
Founded in 1850 in Saint-Satur, in the Loire Valley, the Domaine Laporte is a true institution. Acquired in 1986 by Henri Bourgeois, it is now managed by his grandsons, Arnaud and Cédric Bourgeois. The vineyard covers 21 hectares and stands out for its organic certification obtained in 2013. The estate’s philosophy is based on low yields and an authentic expression of the terroir. This hallmark has established the domaine as a benchmark of its appellation.
The vineyard
The grapes come from Domaine du Rochoy, an exceptional terroir within the Sancerre appellation. This specific 2.5-hectare plot of old vines overlooks the Loire in the commune of Bannay. It benefits from a southeast exposure and thrives on a stony soil very rich in flint. Vineyard management is rigorous, favoring low yields to concentrate the quality of the berries.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by particularly complex weather conditions. Mild temperatures in February and March triggered early vine development. This early start was then met with cold spells and persistent rainfall during spring and summer, leading to high mildew pressure and a significant drop in yields.
Vinification and aging
After manual harvesting, the berries for this Sancerre Blanc 2024 undergo pneumatic pressing followed by cold static settling. Fermentation takes place under temperature control, with 50% in stainless steel tanks and 50% in oak barrels. This Sancerre blanc wine is then aged on fine lees for 11 months, with regular bâtonnage during the first six months. Finally, it rests in bottle for at least 9 months before release.
