Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Domaine Mont Bessay Juliénas "En Bessay" 2024
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a red colour.
Nose
After brief aeration allows a delicate hint of graphite to fade, the bouquet reveals considerable depth. It unfolds aromas of wild fruit together with notes of aromatic herbs, all set against a mineral backdrop.
Palate
The palate offers a slender structure and a precise texture. Driven by intense mineral energy and the freshness typical of a high-altitude wine, it reveals fine tannins. The finish is long and elegant.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs beautifully with white and red meats, such as roast poultry or a herb-crusted leg of lamb. It also goes well with charcuterie boards, vegetarian dishes such as mushroom risotto, and pressed cheeses like Comté.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy the Juliénas "En Bessay" 2024, serve it at a temperature of 14–16°C after decanting for thirty minutes to an hour. This wine can be enjoyed young but will continue to develop gracefully until around 2034.

The estate
Located in the north of Beaujolais, on the border with Burgundy, Domaine Mont Bessay was founded in 2021. It is now run by Philippe Pascal, owner and co-manager, alongside oenologist Guillaume Marko. Drawing on their shared experience in Burgundy, they chose to explore this high-altitude terroir to craft wines of great precision. The estate stands out for its rigorous plot-by-plot approach and its organic and biodynamic vineyard management.
The vineyard
The grapes come from a steep south- and southwest-facing slope of the Mont de Bessay, within the Juliénas appellation. Rising to between 420 and 450 metres above sea level, this terroir lies on poor, free-draining pink granite soils. The vineyard is farmed according to biodynamic principles, encouraging the vines to root deeply.
Winemaking and ageing
The production of the Juliénas "En Bessay" 2024 is based on a meticulous plot-by-plot approach. The harvest is staggered over several days so that each micro-plot is picked at optimal ripeness. Each lot is then vatted, fermented and aged separately, with gentle extractions at moderate temperatures. The final blend is assembled from a strict selection of the finest juices.
