Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pommard 1er cru "Argilières" 2022 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by violet nuances that testify to the youthfulness of this red wine.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals a fine complexity, blending well-ripened red and black fruit aromas such as cherry, blackcurrant and blackberry. These are joined by delicate floral notes of violet, spicy touches of aniseed and white pepper, as well as a mineral thread characteristic of its terroir.
Palate
The attack offers a lovely balance between ripe fruit flavours and undergrowth nuances. The mid-palate is concentrated yet never heavy, supported by refined, perfectly integrated tannins. A beautiful acidity carries the wine through to a persistent finish, marked by spicy, peppery notes.
Service and storage
Although already appealing in its youth, this Pommard 1er cru "Argilières" 2022 has a structure that will allow it to develop further complexity over time. It can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2032.
The elegance and minerality of a red wine from Pommard
The estate
Founded in 1997, Domaine Nicolas Rossignol is a renowned estate in Burgundy. Representing the fifth generation of winemakers in his family, Nicolas Rossignol, the current owner, has forged his own style following numerous international experiences. Now at the helm of a vineyard of around 17 hectares spread across some fine appellations of the Côte de Beaune, he crafts wines of great purity. The estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, drawing heavily on the principles of biodynamics and the lunar calendar to bring out the authentic expression of each terroir.
The vineyard
This cru comes from a historic plot located in the northern part of the Pommard appellation, within a combe benefiting from a south-southeast exposure. The terroir is characterised by white, clay-limestone soils that are highly stony, providing excellent drainage. The particularly old vines, planted in 1924, sink their roots deeply into this limestone-rich soil, giving the wine remarkable concentration and mineral tension.
The vintage
After three years marked by climatic setbacks that significantly reduced yields, 2022 marks the return of a generous harvest. This vintage benefited from mild, warm weather conditions, allowing for balanced ripening of the grapes. The clay-rich soils played a crucial role in retaining moisture, thereby preventing water stress during heat peaks and ensuring optimal phenolic ripeness without excess.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested, with the bunches carefully placed in small wooden crates to preserve their integrity. After thorough sorting, fermentation of this Pommard 1er cru "Argilières" 2022 begins with indigenous yeasts. Depending on the ripeness of the stems, a proportion of whole bunches may be retained. Extraction is gentle, favouring infusion. The wine is then transferred by gravity for aging on fine lees for 10 to 20 months in oak barrels, without racking. Bottling is carried out without fining or filtration.
