An authentic, mineral Chenin Blanc from Anjou from Domaine Ogereau
The producer
Founded at the end of the 19th century, Domaine Ogereau extends over 24 hectares in the Loire Valley, in Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay along the Layon. This family estate produces wines under the Anjou, Coteaux du Layon, Quart de Chaume Grand Cru and Savennières appellations. Emmanuel Ogereau, representing the fifth generation, has managed the estate since 2014. Certified organic since 2018 and biodynamic by Biodyvin since 2024, the producer cultivates mainly Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc on varied schist soils, thus continuing the winemaking tradition of the Loire region.
The vineyard
The Bonnes Blanches terroir forms the historic Grand Cru of Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay in the Anjou appellation. Located on a gently sloping north-east facing slope on the left bank of the Layon, this exceptional lieu-dit rests on weathered schist sedimentary soils, consisting of clay-rich silt with quartz pebbles. These deep soils allow for deep rooting of the vines and preserve freshness even during dry summers. The Chenin vines, planted in the 1990s by Vincent Ogereau, thrive on this 1.9-hectare terroir.
Vinification and aging
The Bonnes Blanches Sec 2023 grapes are harvested by hand with multiple sortings. After whole-cluster pressing and light settling, fermentation and aging take place over ten months on the lees in various containers: 20 hl casks, concrete eggs, terracotta amphorae as well as in new 228-liter barrels. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously and completely.
Grape variety
This Loire white wine is a 100% Chenin Blanc.
