Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the 2024 White from Domaine Philippe Alliet

Tasting notes

Color
The glass reveals a beautiful golden hue, ranging from pale to medium.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves complex, blending citrus notes such as lemon with stone fruit aromas like fresh quince, candied pear, and mirabelle plum chutney. Subtle touches of honey and hay, along with mineral nuances evoking gunflint and chalk dust, add further richness to the whole.

Palate
The palate offers wonderful depth with a creamy, layered texture. The natural acidity, carefully preserved, brings a biting vivacity that perfectly balances the subtly pastry-like notes derived from oak aging. The finish stands out for its persistence and remarkable harmony.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs ideally with seafood, raw oysters, or grilled fish. It also goes wonderfully with white meats such as roasted or delicately spiced poultry, as well as vegetarian dishes like a yellow zucchini risotto. Finally, it beautifully complements fresh goat cheeses.

Service and storage

Approachable even in its youth, this 2024 White can be enjoyed right now, ideally after decanting or opening an hour in advance. It will reach its peak between 2025 and 2032, and can continue to evolve in the cellar until around 2034.

Other characteristics

Malolactic fermentation for this cuvée was deliberately blocked in order to preserve all the vivacity and natural acidity of the grape variety.

The mineral expression and rarity of a white wine from Chinon

The estate

The family's winemaking history dates back to the 17th century, but the contemporary Domaine Philippe Alliet was founded in 1978, when Philippe inherited the land. Located at the heart of the Loire Valley in France, the estate has established itself as a benchmark. Today, the domaine is run by a family trio: Philippe, his wife Claude, and their son Pierre. Together, they cultivate excellence across nearly twenty hectares, favoring low yields and an organic approach to produce wines of remarkable purity.

The vineyard

Located in the communes of Chinon and Cravant-les-Côteaux, the vineyard spans approximately 17 to 18 hectares. The vines benefit from an ideal south-facing exposure and thrive on a mosaic of soils composed of clay, limestone, silica, and gravelly sand. The estate has practiced organic viticulture since 1990, using no chemical products, with fully manual harvesting. The white cuvée comes from a tiny plot of less than one hectare with clay-siliceous and limestone soils. Since 2023, a freer pruning method has been applied to encourage the natural expression of the vines.

The vintage

The year 2024 continues the trend of recent quality vintages in the region. The climatic conditions allowed for concentrated, refined berries. The vines also fully benefited from the new, less restrictive pruning method adopted by the estate, promoting optimal vegetative balance for grape ripening.

Winemaking and aging

After a manual harvest and rigorous sorting, the 2024 White ferments using indigenous yeasts directly in 500-liter oak barrels. Aging continues in these same vessels for exactly twelve months. The proportion of oak is carefully divided: one third new barrels, one third once-used barrels, and one third twice-used barrels, allowing the woody notes to be subtly integrated without masking the purity of the fruit.
