Domaine Richard Rottiers : Dernier Souffle 2022

This shows aromas of wild blueberries, strawberries, lavender, stone and dried mint. It’s medium-bodied, lively and bright, with tight tannins. I like the minty and mineral freshness at the end. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

(organic) The wine shows a medium-intensity ruby colour. The nose reveals a racy minerality (graphite, a hint of iron) allied to juicy, concentrated fruit: aromas of morello cherry, cherry jam, wild strawberry and crushed blackcurrant, along with notes of dried mint, a fine spicy edge (liquorice, clove), background roast tones (toasted hazelnut, lightly smoky), and a touch of faded peony. The palate is gourmand and fruity, with fine, powdery tannins that are slightly gripping, and a pleasant bitterness. Flavours of tangy red cherry, crunchy strawberry, redcurrant, morello cherry and crushed blackcurrant come through, joined by a hint of fresh peony, dried mint, a mineral lick (graphite), and a touch of roast (toasted, smoky hazelnut). Good length on the palate, with a pleasing herbal note and mouthwatering acidity.
