Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Charlouise 2023 from Domaine Vincent Pinard

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful garnet hue of medium intensity, enhanced by brilliant highlights and great luminosity.

Nose
Complex and evolving, the nose opens with vibrant aromas of cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. With aeration, it reveals delicate floral notes of violet and rose, mingled with fine spicy touches of cinnamon and white pepper, as well as subtle mentholated, herbaceous and lightly smoky nuances.

Palate
The attack is moderate, giving way to a dense, textured and full-bodied palate. Flavours of red and black fruit, such as black cherry and plum, are perfectly balanced by lovely acidity and velvety tannins. The finish is long and flavourful, closing on elegant bitter notes.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with pan-seared meaty fish, poached poultry with a creamy sauce, roast pork with prunes or duck with cherries. It will also go very well with an aubergine gratin.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve Charlouise 2023 at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, taking care to decant it while young. This wine can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.

Other characteristics

The alcohol content of this wine ranges between 14 and 15%.

The elegance and depth of a Sancerre Pinot Noir

The estate

Located in Bué, at the heart of the Loire valley, Domaine Vincent Pinard was officially established in the early 1970s, although the family's winemaking history spans more than twenty generations. Today, Vincent's sons, Florent and Clément Pinard, passionately run this 17-hectare estate. Nicknamed the "Rolls-Royce of Sancerre", the estate stands out for its artisanal approach, limited yields and uncertified organic and biodynamic viticulture, aimed at expressing the purest authenticity of its terroirs.

The vineyard

The grapes used for this cuvée come from vines around fifty years old, cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles. This vineyard, part of the Sancerre appellation, rests on clay-limestone soils with limestone subsoils, an ideal terroir for giving the region's red grape variety remarkable structure and complexity.

The vintage

2023 offered generous weather conditions, marked by a warm and relatively dry climate. This mild weather encouraged accelerated ripening of the berries, resulting in grapes with thicker skins and optimal maturity at harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The harvest is entirely manual and followed by rigorous sorting on a vibrating table. The berries are fully destemmed before undergoing a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in conical wooden vats, accompanied by gentle punching down and pumping over. The Charlouise 2023 is aged for 17 to 20 months, two-thirds in oak barrels of one year or older, and one-third in wooden vats, with no use of new oak whatsoever.
