Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Gran Enemigo 2022 from El Enemigo
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine, made from a Bordeaux-inspired blend of grape varieties grown in Argentina, pairs naturally with grilled or slow-cooked red meats, game and mature cheeses. These simple pairings allow the wine's structure to express itself fully.
An Argentine Red from El Enemigo, Between Bordeaux Heritage and Mendoza Terroir
The Estate
El Enemigo is the project led by Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil at Bodega Aleanna in Mendoza. Adrianna is the daughter of Nicolás Catena, and Alejandro is an oenologist who trained at Catena Zapata, among other places. Together, the two founders now run this estate, conceived as a dialogue between European winemaking heritage and Andean identity. Their vineyards, located notably in the Uco Valley, produce wines classified as Geographical Indication (GI), such as this Gran Enemigo 2022.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Argentine wine come from the terroirs worked by El Enemigo in Mendoza, in the Uco Valley, and more specifically from the Gualtallary area. The vines are planted on high-altitude limestone and alluvial soils, typical of the mountain terroirs of this region, which favour slow ripening and lovely freshness in the grapes.
Grape Varieties
This red wine is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, grape varieties that combine the Argentine identity of Malbec with the heritage of the great Bordeaux varieties.
