Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Echezeaux Grand cru 2010 from Joseph Drouhin

Tasting

Colour
This wine displays a brilliant red colour of fine intensity.

Nose
The bouquet unfolds a rich aromatic palette, blending scents of stone fruits such as cherry, peach and apricot with indulgent notes of cocoa, sweet spices and cedar.

Palate
The palate charms with its caressing texture, reminiscent of silk and velvet. The tannins are exceptionally fine, supporting a dense, well-balanced structure that stretches into an extremely persistent finish, highlighted by a delicate touch of dark chocolate.

Food and wine pairings

This grand cru pairs beautifully with flavourful yet delicate meats such as roast pigeon, spiced duck or rack of lamb. It also enhances dishes featuring prized mushrooms (porcini, chanterelles, truffles), as well as medium-aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal enjoyment, this wine is best served between 16 and 18°C. Gently decanting it for around an hour allows its aromas to open up fully. This Echezeaux Grand cru 2010 is built for long ageing and can be enjoyed until around 2030.

The elegance and depth of a Burgundy grand cru from Joseph Drouhin

The estate

Founded in 1880 in the heart of Beaune, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a true institution in Burgundy. This historic house, which today spans nearly 100 hectares across the region, is run by the fourth generation of the family, with Frédéric Drouhin as president. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, the estate stands out for its early commitment to organic and biodynamic farming, certified as early as the 1990s. Combining a prestigious négociant business with an extensive heritage of premiers and grands crus, the house strives to express the purity of each terroir.

The vineyard

The Echezeaux climat is an illustrious terroir of the Côte de Nuits, located in the village of Flagey-Echezeaux. The vines, the result of meticulous massal selection, thrive on a gently sloping, east-facing hillside. They grow on deep clay-limestone soils, farmed in strict accordance with organic and biodynamic principles to promote biodiversity and natural balance.

The vintage

2010 stands out as a classic year, offering conditions conducive to fruit ripeness without excess. This vintage produced wines with fine natural tension, remarkable balance and dense concentration, hallmarks of the region's great vintages for ageing.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand, with the bunches carefully placed in small perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. The making of this Echezeaux Grand cru 2010 continues with meticulous ageing in French oak barrels, around 30% of them new, for a period of 16 to 20 months.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
