The authentic expression of Santenay terroir by Maison Joseph Drouhin
The estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a historic figure of Burgundy. The estate spans nearly 90 hectares across the region's most prestigious appellations. A pioneer in adopting environmentally responsible practices, the estate is now led by the fourth generation of the family. As a member of the Primum Familiae Vini group, the house continues a tradition combining respect for nature with family continuity.
The vineyard
The Santenay vineyard lies at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune. The Beaurepaire plot sits on a well-oriented slope, just above the village. The Chardonnay vines grow in clay-limestone soils, made up of marl and oolitic limestone. The vineyard is managed according to organic and biodynamic farming principles, encouraging deep root growth and a pure expression of the terroir.
The vintage
2023 stands out as a fine vintage in Burgundy. Mild weather conditions allowed for a healthy harvest, with a steady growing cycle and white grapes of lovely aromatic ripeness while retaining great freshness.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested in perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. Pressing is slow and gentle. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels using exclusively indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new oak, to highlight the purity of the fruit without masking it.
