Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2025 from L'Oratoire des Papes
Tasting
Colour
Pale, luminous yellow, this wine is enhanced by delicate golden highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of white and yellow fruit such as pear, peach and quince, along with fresh citrus. Subtle hints of white flowers and a flinty minerality lift the whole.
Palate
The attack is lively and beautifully fresh, giving way to a smooth, creamy texture. The palate is framed by a saline, mineral backbone that leads into a long finish, finely tangy and marked by a noble bitterness.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as monkfish tail with saffron, scallop tartare or grilled lobster. It will also shine alongside a platter of aged hard cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
To appreciate the full complexity of this vintage, serve it at around 12°C and let it warm gently in the glass. With excellent ageing potential, it can be cellared until around 2040.
The freshness and minerality of a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape
The estate
Born around a place of devotion dedicated to Saint Mark, L'Oratoire des Papes owes its identity and its iconic Art Deco label to the Amouroux family, who created them in 1926. Located in France, in the heart of the Rhône Valley, this historic estate was acquired in 2000 by Maison Ogier, part of the AdVini group, which still owns it today. Under the leadership of François Miquel and technical director Édouard Guerin, the estate now farms 38.5 hectares of vines. It stands out for its commitment to natural practices and its desire to express the very essence of the local terroirs.
The vineyard
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard thrives in a sunny Mediterranean climate, swept and kept healthy by the Mistral wind. The plots dedicated to white grape varieties lie mainly on soils of Urgonian limestone fragments and safre. This distinctive geology gives the grapes remarkable tension and salinity. The estate favours environmentally friendly viticulture, with exclusively hand harvesting and meticulous sorting of the bunches.
Winemaking and ageing
After direct pressing, this vintage is made with a minimal-intervention approach. The wine is aged on fine lees for around six months, until the spring. 80% of the blend is aged in egg-shaped concrete vats, which encourage the natural stirring of the lees, and 20% in 300-litre French oak barrels. To preserve optimal freshness, malolactic fermentation is avoided.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, Piquepoul and Picardan.
