Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Cornas 2023 Les Alexandrins
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a deep red hue enhanced by brilliant highlights.
Nose
Intense and remarkably complex, the nose exudes aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant, plum and morello cherry. It then opens onto mineral and spicy notes evoking white pepper, graphite, violet, along with subtle smoky touches.
Palate
The palate seduces with its density and textural richness. The attack reveals silky yet powerful tannins, offering remarkable elegance. The finish is persistent, extending the delicious mineral and spicy notes perceived on the nose.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with grilled red meats, slow-cooked dishes in sauce or game such as duck confit with aromatic herbs. It also pairs perfectly with aged cheeses.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Cornas 2023 at a temperature of 17°C, taking care to decant it between thirty minutes and one hour before serving. This wine can be enjoyed after a few years of cellaring, but will continue to evolve beautifully until around 2033.

The estate
Officially founded in 2009, Les Alexandrins is the result of a collaboration between Nicolas Jaboulet, from an illustrious winemaking family, and Alexandre Caso, a terroir specialist. Located in Tain-l'Hermitage, in the heart of the Rhône Valley, the estate stands out for its approach combining classicism and modernity. Now led by this complementary duo, the Domaines Les Alexandrins oversee a 78-hectare vineyard certified organic, with an ongoing commitment to preserving the purity and authenticity of the Rhône terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Les Eygats lieu-dit, located within the Cornas appellation. This exceptional terroir rises to over 250 metres in altitude on steep terraces of decomposed granite. Benefiting from a south and south-east exposure, these vines enjoy optimal sunlight while retaining a pleasant freshness, allowing for slow and balanced ripening of the berries.
The vintage
The year began under mild conditions before going through a series of climatic challenges, combining episodes of frost, hail showers and periods of drought contrasting with high humidity. Thanks to meticulous work, harvesting took place from mid-August to the end of September, allowing for the picking of berries with perfectly balanced ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
The production of this Cornas 2023 begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration to gently extract the aromas. Fermentation and maceration then take place over about twenty days, punctuated by pumping-over and punching down. Finally, the wine undergoes careful aging for about fifteen months in one- and two-wine oak barrels, allowing for slow maturation without masking the brilliance of the fruit.
