Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Louis Jadot's Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Cras" Famille Gagey 2024

Tasting

Appearance
The glass reveals a beautiful red hue with vibrant highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of soft red fruits intertwined with mineral touches reminiscent of wet stone. With aeration, subtle floral and spicy nuances gently emerge.

Palate
The palate offers a beautiful balance between power and elegance. It is built on a framework of fine tannins and a bright acidity. Floral and spicy flavours unfold before stretching into a persistent finish, underlined by a mineral backbone.

Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs ideally with dark meats and feathered game, such as roast duck or goose. It also goes very well with traditional slow-cooked dishes such as boeuf bourguignon or coq au vin, as well as aged cheeses.

Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Cras" Famille Gagey 2024 at a temperature between 17 and 18°C. Accessible in its youth, this wine can also be cellared and enjoyed until around 2039.

The elegance and minerality of a Beaune Premier Cru

The estate
Officially founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is a true institution in Burgundy. Both a négociant and a landowner, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of more than 200 hectares, a large part of which is classified as Premier and Grand Cru. Now owned by the Kopf family and operationally led by Thibault Gagey, the estate stands out for its commitment to sustainable viticulture, having recently obtained organic certification for its holdings.

The vineyard
The "Aux Cras" climat is ideally located at the heart of the Beaune hillside, just above the Theurons parcel. This prestigious terroir enjoys excellent south-easterly exposure. The vines thrive on distinctive soils composed of red clay closely blended with small stones, giving the wines their characteristic complexity and minerality.

The vintage
The 2024 growing season was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. Relentless spring rains led to significant cryptogamic pressure, followed by localised hailstorms and uneven flowering. Despite drastically reduced yields, meticulous work in the vineyards made it possible to harvest healthy, fully ripe berries between 14 and 21 September.

Winemaking and aging
The grapes destined for this Beaune 1er Cru "Aux Cras" Famille Gagey 2024 are hand-harvested and then carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery. After destemming, fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts in oak vats. The wine is then transferred to oak barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation and an extended aging of approximately 16 months. The final blend of the barrels is carried out just before bottling.

Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
