Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Louis Jadot's Echezeaux Grand cru "Famille Gagey" 2022
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a beautiful red hue, typical of its appellation.
Nose
In its youth, the nose reveals vibrant aromas of cherry and floral notes, enhanced by subtle touches of vanilla, wood, smoke and spices. Over time, the bouquet gains in complexity, offering deep nuances of undergrowth, truffle, fine leather and cedar.
Palate
The attack is lively and gives way to a silky, ample and flavourful palate, carried by aromas of ripe red fruits. The vibrant acidity is perfectly balanced by refined and delicate tannins. The finish, of remarkable persistence, lingers at length on fruity, mineral and spicy notes.
Food and wine pairings
This grand cru pairs wonderfully with characterful meats such as roast duck, goose, partridge or wild boar. It also enhances fine cuts of beef, such as a rib of beef or a top-quality sirloin. When it comes to cheeses, it is an ideal match for an Époisses or a mature Comté. Dishes based on mushrooms, lentils or root vegetables will perfectly highlight its earthy notes.
Serving and cellaring
Endowed with remarkable ageing potential, this Echezeaux Grand cru "Famille Gagey" 2022 can be enjoyed until around 2050, with an optimal drinking window between 2030 and 2050.
The elegance and depth of a Burgundy grand cru by Louis Jadot
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a leading institution in Burgundy. Located in the heart of Beaune, France, the estate stretches over nearly 270 hectares of vines. Operating as both grower and négociant, the estate showcases the full richness of the Burgundian terroirs. Since 1985, the American Kopf family has owned the House, which is today led by Thomas Seiter. Combining historical heritage and sustainable practices, Louis Jadot produces wines renowned worldwide for their faithfulness to the pure expression of the terroir.
The vineyard
Echezeaux is a historic grand cru located in the village of Flagey-Échezeaux, within the prestigious Côte de Nuits. The vines flourish at altitudes ranging from 230 to 300 metres on a complex mosaic of soils, combining clay-limestone over Bajocian limestone and marls covered with pebbles. The "Famille Gagey" designation indicates that the grapes come from plots directly owned and cultivated by the estate, allowing rigorous quality control and vineyard management certified in organic farming.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage stands out for its hot and dry summer, favouring an early harvest. This mild season yielded grapes in impeccable sanitary condition, with no trace of grey rot or botrytis. These ideal weather conditions gave rise to a serene growing cycle and optimal ripening of the berries.
Winemaking and ageing
The vinification of this Echezeaux Grand cru "Famille Gagey" 2022 respects Burgundian traditions. After destemming the bunches, fermentation takes place in open vats for around one month, with careful control to gently extract colour and tannic structure. The wine then benefits from an extended ageing of 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, including a significant proportion of new wood, in order to refine its profile and develop its aromatic complexity.
