Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Color
The color reveals a pale yellow hue enhanced by delicate green highlights.
Nose
Intense and remarkably complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of pear and floral touches, mingled with notes of toasted almond and vanilla. Subtle nuances of fresh hazelnut, verbena and honey intertwine with a pure minerality.
Palate
Generous and full-bodied, the palate offers flavors of fresh almonds and roasted coffee. A pronounced minerality, evoking cracked oyster shell and gunflint, is perfectly balanced by the vibrancy of citrus fruits such as grapefruit and lime. The finish stands out for its remarkable length.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great white wine pairs beautifully with noble shellfish such as lobster, or with foie gras. It also enhances refined fish dishes such as a salmon steak, scallops in cream sauce, a pork tenderloin with mushrooms, as well as aged hard cheeses like Gruyère or Cheddar.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, this wine is best served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 boasts excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2034.
The Mineral Precision and Richness of a Great White Burgundy
The Estate
Officially founded in 1797 in Aloxe-Corton, Maison Louis Latour is a historic figure of Burgundy, in France. This family estate, whose winemaking origins date back to 1731, oversees a vineyard of 48 hectares, including a uniquely high proportion of 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru. Today led by Florent Latour, representing the eleventh generation, the estate stands out for its traditional expertise and its own in-house cooperage. The estate skillfully combines centuries-old heritage with sustainable practices to reveal the authenticity of its terroirs.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Corton-Charlemagne come from a 10.5-hectare vineyard located on the steep slopes of the Corton hill, benefiting from an ideal south-east exposure. Rising to between 280 and 330 meters in altitude, these roughly thirty-year-old vines thrive on soils of chalky marl and highly stony limestone rock. The estate favors sustainable viticulture, employing organic methods such as the use of natural predators against mites and meticulous leaf thinning to promote airflow and sun exposure for the bunches.
The Vintage
2024 proved to be a particularly challenging year for Burgundian winegrowers. Difficult weather conditions throughout the growing season and during the harvest led to an overall decrease in production volumes. Nevertheless, this complex vintage yielded grapes of beautiful purity from the best-preserved plots.
Winemaking and Aging
As soon as they are harvested, the grapes are immediately pressed. The resulting must undergoes a rapid fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then transferred into new French oak barrels, crafted by the estate's own cooperage, to undergo complete malolactic fermentation. This Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2024 is then aged in these same barrels for a period of eight to ten months.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
