The estate
Domaine Louis Latour is the largest wine estate in Burgundy and boasts a winemaking history of over 200 years. Spread over the most beautiful plots of land in Premiers and Grands Crus from the Côte de Beaune to the Côte de Nuits, Domaine Louis Latour’s 50-hectare vineyard gives rise to a range of wines from 130 appellations, each of which authentically expresses the refined characteristics of its terroir of origin.
Since 1996, Domaine Louis Latour has been actively involved in environmentally-friendly viticulture.
The vineyard
Thomas Jefferson’s favourite wine, Louis Latour's "Goutte d'Or" is a Meursault 1er cru wine that stems from a vineyard located near the eponymous village, in the direction of Puligny-Montrachet. The vines are 35 years old on average and are planted on soils composed of marl, limestone and flint. The shape and colour of these soils, which resemble a drop of gold, have given this parcel its unique name.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are fermented in oak barrels. 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged for 8 to 10 months in French oak barrels (50% new) from the estate's cooperage.
The blend
Chardonnay (100%).
