Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Les Quatre Journaux" 2024 by Louis Latour

Tasting

Colour
This French red wine reveals a magnificent ruby hue, deep and intense, with carmine highlights that will intensify over time.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the aromatic bouquet reveals notes of black cherries, blackcurrant, almond and mocha, enhanced by touches of undergrowth. Over the years, it will develop subtle tertiary notes of leather and truffle.

Palate
Combining power and delicacy, the palate is full-bodied and beautifully fresh. The tannins, both silky and refined, are matched by a taut mineral tension. The finish lingers, carried by a vibrant liveliness.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée is a wonderful match for full-flavoured meats and game, whether roasted, braised or served in sauce. It pairs beautifully with a beef fillet with truffles, Peking-style duck, jugged hare or squab with chanterelles.

Serving and Cellaring

Built to stand the test of decades, the Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Les Quatre Journaux" 2024 requires patience and will only fully reveal itself after around ten years in the cellar. It can be kept and enjoyed until approximately 2059.

The Elegance of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Louis Latour

The Estate

Founded in 1797, the House of Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy. Based in Beaune and Aloxe-Corton, it owns the largest grand cru estate in the region. Historically family-run, the estate is now led by Florent Latour, who continues an age-old expertise while incorporating sustainable environmental practices. Combining tradition and innovation, notably through its own cooperage, this iconic estate embodies French winemaking excellence around the world, offering wines that fully express the richness of their terroirs.

The Vineyard

Acquired at the end of the nineteenth century, this gem spans a gentle east-facing slope. The Romanée-Saint-Vivant plot benefits from an exceptional terroir of fine, homogeneous clay-limestone soils, resting on a bedrock of Bajocian limestone. This natural drainage and deep rooting allow the vine to perfectly regulate its water needs. The vines are cultivated with great rigour, favouring very low yields and late harvests to ensure optimal aromatic concentration in the berries.

The Vintage

2024 was marked by generally mild and favourable weather conditions throughout the vine's growing cycle. This climate allowed for steady, healthy vineyard development, resulting in a fine success.

Winemaking and Aging

The Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru "Les Quatre Journaux" 2024 is crafted in keeping with traditional methods within a historic winery. Fermentation takes place entirely in open vats, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then carefully aged for ten to twelve months in entirely new French oak barrels, custom-made by the estate's own cooperage with a light, extended toasting.

Grape Variety

100% Pinot Noir.
