The Complexity and Fruity Structure of a Red Wine from Vallée du Rhône

The Estate

Established in 1808 in Tain-L’Hermitage, Maison M. Chapoutier today embodies the elite of the most renowned names in Vallée du Rhône wines.

As both winemaker and négociant, Michel Chapoutier has, over successive vintages, led this family enterprise to its pinnacle. Maison Chapoutier’s wines are celebrated for their refinement and high quality by the finest connoisseurs worldwide. A man of many hats, Michel Chapoutier holds the global record for 100/100 scores awarded by American critic Robert Parker. Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier’s daughter, has taken up the torch of this iconic house, overseeing a vineyard of more than 350 hectares across the most prestigious appellations of northern and southern Vallée du Rhône.

The Vineyard

Monier de la Sizeranne is a vin d’Hermitage made from a blend of different vineyards, arranged from west to east: “Les Bessards” on granitic soil, “Le Méal,” with its ancient alluvial terraces of more or less calcareous terrain rich in gravel and rolled stones, and “Les Greffieux” on loam and rolled stone soil.

Vinification and Aging

Hand harvest. Destemming prior to vinification in small concrete vats. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts, with moderate sulfur use. Maceration for 3 to 4 weeks before aging for 18 months in barrels (15 % new) and small foudres.

Grape Variety

Syrah (100 %).
