Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Terre de Jonquières 2024 by Mas Cal Demoura
Tasting
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is fresh, dominated by notes of dark fruit. It is enriched by spicy nuances, touches of liquorice and garrigue aromas, characteristic of its terroir.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a silky texture supported by tannins of great finesse. Its complexity unfolds through flavours of dark fruit, liquorice and garrigue, with an expected development towards notes of leather over time.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs ideally with grilled meats seasoned with herbs or traditional slow-cooked dishes, such as a Provençal-style daube.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment of Terre de Jonquières 2024, we recommend serving it at 16°C, decanted while young. This age-worthy wine will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2030, or even beyond.
The Elegance and Depth of a Red Wine from Terrasses du Larzac
The Estate
Founded in the early 1990s, Mas Cal Demoura is a historic player in the qualitative renewal of the Languedoc. Now run by Isabelle and Vincent Goumard, the estate extends over 17 hectares of vineyards farmed organically and biodynamically. Located in the commune of Jonquières, the estate is dedicated to producing wines that faithfully reflect their terroir, combining the generosity of the Mediterranean climate with a characteristic freshness. Mas Cal Demoura has thus established itself as an essential reference in its region.
The Vineyard
Located in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac appellation, the vineyard enjoys a privileged geographical position at the foot of the causse. The vines thrive on soils composed of limestone gravel and clay-limestone matrices. This terroir benefits from a Mediterranean climate tempered by cool air currents descending from the plateau, resulting in pronounced diurnal temperature variations. The vineyard is managed with the utmost respect for the environment, with hand-harvesting and naturally low yields.
Vinification and Ageing
The Terre de Jonquières 2024 cuvée is crafted from parcel-by-parcel vinifications using only indigenous yeasts. Maceration periods are long, with precise temperature control for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for twelve months in demi-muids and foudres, with a limited proportion of new oak, before being finished with four months of maturation in tank. Clarification and stabilisation occur naturally through time and cold.
Grape Varieties
This wine is a blend of Syrah (35%), Grenache (20%), Cinsault (20%), Mourvèdre (15%) and Carignan (10%).
