Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Les Nouveaux États d'Âme 2024 by Mas Jullien
Tasting
Appearance
A deep ruby hue, enhanced by subtle violet highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with crisp aromas of black fruit, such as blackcurrant, cherry jam and plum, mingled with touches of fresh red fruit. With aeration, it reveals a lovely spicy complexity marked by white and black pepper, liquorice, camphor and mint, along with notes of garrigue, wild thyme and sage, complemented by delicate roasted nuances.
Palate
The attack is round and unctuous, offering a creamy texture without any heaviness. The juicy, energetic mid-palate unfolds flavours of black fruit and spice, supported by silky, remarkably fine tannins. The finish, of lovely length, stands out for its saline minerality and liquorice notes.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with duck tartare, grilled meats such as lamb, pork or feathered game, or even a sweet potato mousse. It will also go perfectly with light Provençal cuisine, dishes rich in aromatic herbs or Mediterranean seafood.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this wine at a temperature of around 17°C. Approachable in its youth, it can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.
The fresh, contemporary expression of a Vin de France signed Mas Jullien
The estate
Founded in 1985 by Olivier Jullien and Jean-Philippe Granier, Mas Jullien is regarded as one of the leading advocates of environmentally respectful viticulture, with the estate applying the principles of organic and biodynamic farming. Mas Jullien stands out for its commitment to producing authentic wines deeply rooted in their terroir.
The vineyard
This Vin de France comes from plots located on sandstone and schist terroirs. The vineyard benefits from a significant diurnal temperature variation between day and night, as well as the cooling influence of maritime winds. Vineyard management favours ploughing, controlled grass cover, short pruning and rigorous manual harvesting to preserve biodiversity and soil health.
The vintage
The 2024 vintage was characterised by climatic conditions that allowed for moderate ripeness. The growing cycle thus yielded berries combining a lovely expression of ripe fruit with refreshing acidity and great mineral precision.
Vinification and ageing
After meticulous manual sorting, vinification is carried out with whole bunches using indigenous yeasts. Extraction is particularly gentle, with measured punching down and pumping over at controlled temperatures. Ageing, lasting around six months, takes place in a combination of old foudres, demi-muids and sandstone jars, in order to preserve the freshness and brightness of the fruit without marking the wine with oak.
Grape varieties
Cinsault, Grenache Noir, Carignan Noir, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
