The estate
After graduating in oenology in 1973, Mauro Molino founded his eponymous estate in 1982. Having taken over the family vineyards following the death of his father Giuseppe in 1978, he released his first cuvée in 1982 with the prestigious Vigna Conca. Today, the estate covers 20 hectares in La Morra, in the heart of the Barolo production area. His children, Matteo and Martina, now carry on the family's sustainable viticulture across exceptional plots such as Conca, Bricco Luciani and La Serra. The estate stands out for its elegant Barolos with supple tannins, typical of La Morra.
The vineyard
The Barbera d'Alba Superiore "Legattere" is made from a selection of grapes grown in a historic family vineyard in the La Morra area. The 40-year-old vines are planted on clay-limestone soils with south and south-west exposures.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand from late September to early October and collected in small crates. Vinification involves 6 days of maceration on the skins, followed by alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The Barbera d'Alba DOC "Legattere" Mauro Molino is then aged for around 12 months in small French oak barrels.
Grape variety
This Italian wine is made from 100% Barbera.
