Description
The delicacy of a fruity and refined Saint-Émilion
The Second Wine of the emblematic Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé - Château-Figeac – the Petit Figeac 2018 embodies the excellence of its appellation following in the footsteps of the estate’s First Wine. With a unique personality of its own, Petit-Figeac is distinguished from the Grand Vin by its refined label, bearing a bright red-orange colour and a wax seal adorned with the coat of arms of the family.
A great year for Bordeaux, 2018 was marked by a particularly rainy first half with storms until mid-July. It is from this date on that the sun began to shine, and the vineyards saw ideal weather conditions right up to the date of the harvest. The work and great effort by the Château Figeac technical teams - under the direction of Frédéric Faye - made it possible to keep the vines perfectly healthy. For this 2018 vintage, the grape harvest began on September 17 and ended on October 12. The grapes harvested had ripe pips and fine tannins.
A blend of Merlot (39%), Cabernet Franc (16%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), the Petit-Figeac 2018 comes from a selection of young vines at Château Figeac. The vintage is aged for 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new wood).
A magnificent expression of the great terroir, endowed with the same texture as the estate’s First Wine, the Petit-Figeac 2018 reveals a dark, bright colour. Intensely expressive, the bouquet opens with notes of ripe black fruits. The palate is gourmet and very fresh, coating the mouth and offering a deliciously velvety and fine tannic structure. With a long, slender profile, the elegant finish lingers with fruity notes. A magnificent vintage of Petit-Figeac, this wine is gourmand, fruity and full of finesse.
