Overlooking the Rioja Alavesa region, El Sacramento has been owned by Viñas Leizaola since 2011. The name, of Basque origin, was in fact the maiden name of the mother of owner Étienne Cordonnier.
The first references to this vineyard near Laguardia, in Spain, appeared in old manuscripts. These testify to the fact that the vineyard belonged to the Confrérie du Saint Sacrement, which had been producing wine since the early 17th century.
The bottles of Viñas Leizaola El Sacramento are decorated with the coat of arms of the "Cofradia del Santísimo Sacramento."
In these valleys bordered by mountains, on the dry, renowned lands of La Rioja, the El Sacramento vines, pruned in a goblet shape, are planted on a soil of clay and silty sand. El Sacramento is the estate's only wine, made from a blend of Tempranillo (92%) and Graciano (8%).
Under the impetus and passion of Étienne Cordonnier, El Sacramento now ranks among the greatest names in Rioja Alavesa.
