Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 by Santa Rita
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a deep ruby-red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals intense scents of blackcurrant, ripe cherries and black fruit, subtly lifted by notes of spice and graphite and delicate herbaceous touches.
Palate
On the palate, this wine is perfectly structured and balanced. It offers fine-grained tannins and a persistent acidity. The long finish is precise, remarkably fresh and imbued with minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine will pair beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a fine beef rib-eye or a herb-crusted rack of lamb. It will also make an excellent match for rich dishes in sauce or game.
Serving and cellaring
With excellent ageing potential, the Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 can be cellared for many years to develop its full aromatic complexity.
The elegance of a great Cabernet Sauvignon from the Maipo Valley by Santa Rita
The estate
Founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha, Santa Rita is an iconic name in Chilean winemaking, located in the renowned Maipo Valley, in the heart of the Central Valley. Today, the estate is run by María Luisa Vial de Claro through the Claro Vial Foundation. Recognised worldwide, this prestigious brand stands out for its exceptional historical heritage, listed as a National Monument, and its strong commitment to sustainability. Combining tradition with cutting-edge technology, the estate crafts internationally acclaimed wines that reflect the full richness and complexity of South America's greatest terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come exclusively from a historic 20-hectare vineyard located in the Carneros Viejo and Población sectors of Alto Jahuel. This exceptional terroir, nestled in the Alto Maipo Valley sub-region, lies on ancient alluvial terraces. These poor, well-drained soils, made up of gravel, sand and silt, provide ideal conditions for growing vines, encouraging deep rooting and optimal concentration in the berries.
The wine
The 2023 vintage features a new "Casa Real" capsule rather than the "Santa Rita" capsule used until now. The four-leaf clover, which appears on the label and in the Casa Real chapel, is now subtly associated with the brand.
The vintage
The 2022-2023 season was marked by above-average temperatures, which encouraged excellent concentration in the grapes. The particularly hot, dry conditions in February and March accelerated ripening. As a result, harvesting began early and ran from 8 February to 8 March.
Winemaking and ageing
To craft the Casa Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2023, the bunches are hand-harvested before undergoing a rigorous double sorting. Fermentation is accompanied by a tailored pumping-over programme, intense at first and then gentler, to favour finesse. After running off, the wine is pressed in a basket press to preserve its structure and aromatic expression. Finally, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 70% of them new and 30% second-fill.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
