Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Mâcon-Villages "Terres de Pierres" 2025 from Verget
Tasting notes
Colour
Brilliant and limpid, the colour reveals a lovely pale yellow hue, enhanced by delicate green and golden highlights.
Nose
Fine and highly expressive, the bouquet opens with notes of white fruit such as pear and peach, mingled with hints of citrus and white flowers. A subtle minerality reminiscent of flint completes the picture.
Palate
The attack is wonderfully fresh. Full, round and intensely fruity, the palate charms with its silky texture, perfectly balanced by crystalline acidity. The finish lingers on superb saline and mineral notes.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters or fish ceviche. It will also make a brilliant match for roast poultry with citrus, a green vegetable risotto, sushi or fresh goat's cheese.
Serving and cellaring
This Mâcon-Villages "Terres de Pierres" 2025 will reveal its full complexity after a few years of cellaring, and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2033.
The Tension and Minerality of a White Wine from the Mâcon-Villages Appellation by Verget
The estate
Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine Heynen, the House of Verget is based in Sologny, in the heart of Burgundy. Conceived as a true laboratory of terroirs, it stands out for its "haute couture" négociant model, which involves buying grapes rather than wines in order to control every stage of production. Today, the estate is chaired by Jean-Marie Guffens' holding company (JMG Holding), while general and technical management is entrusted to oenologist Julien Desplans.
The vineyard
The grapes behind this Mâcon-Villages come from hillsides in the south of the region. Bathed in sunshine and swept by southerly breezes, the vines thrive on clay-limestone soils rich in white stones, which give the wine its characteristic tension. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of sustainable viticulture, favouring mechanical soil work and excluding the use of herbicides or insecticides.
Vinification and maturing
The making of the Mâcon-Villages "Terres de Pierres" 2025 begins with a gentle pressing of whole bunches, followed by static cold settling. Fermentations proceed slowly thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine is matured for eight months on fine lees, divided between stainless steel tanks and partially used oak barrels, with light lees stirring to add texture without masking the purity of the fruit.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%).
