Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Haut de la Roche" 2024

Tasting

Colour
This white wine reveals a delicate pale lemon hue.

Nose
Wonderfully complex, the bouquet reveals aromas of white flowers, crisp orchard fruits, white peach and lemon zest. These are interwoven with notes of fresh bread, crushed oyster shells, as well as subtle smoky, spicy and toasted touches over a mineral backdrop.

Palate
The palate offers a fine, vibrant and taut structure. With a satiny texture, it balances fruity flesh with crisp acidity and a precise mineral framework. Flavours of citrus, stone fruits, chalk and almond blossom emerge, enhanced by gentle woody spices. The finish is long, saline and particularly refreshing.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with seafood, notably oysters and prawns, as well as with fish. It also perfectly accompanies poultry dishes in sauce, such as mustard chicken, and goat's cheese.

Service and storage

This Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Haut de la Roche" 2024 offers immediate enjoyment while also possessing remarkable ageing potential, allowing it to evolve gracefully in bottle for many years to come.

The mineral, precise expression of a great Burgundy terroir by Maison Verget

The estate

Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen, Maison Verget is a merchant house based in Burgundy. A pioneer of environmentally responsible viticulture, it stands out for its exacting quality standards, proving that merchant wines can rival those of the greatest estates. The house is renowned for its remarkably pure wines and its rigorous plot-by-plot approach.

The vineyard

The plot from which this wine originates lies within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Located at the top of the Roche de Vergisson, at an altitude of between 400 and 450 metres, the 40- to 50-year-old vines benefit from a south-east-facing exposure. They thrive on very shallow soils dominated by hard Jurassic limestone and rocky fragments, naturally giving low yields.

The vintage

2024 was marked by extreme weather conditions, leading to a significant drop in yields. The harvest, which was late, took place between 10 and 28 September. Despite these challenges, a saving sunny spell in September allowed the grapes to reach optimal ripeness.

Winemaking and ageing

For this Pouilly-Fuissé Village "Haut de la Roche" 2024, the grapes are hand-harvested, meticulously sorted and then pressed immediately. The must ferments using indigenous yeasts directly in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new. Ageing continues on fine lees until the following August, with regular lees stirring and topping up. After a natural malolactic fermentation, the wine is racked, blended, lightly filtered and then bottled at the estate.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
