Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Viré-Clessé Village "À l'Agrémat Vieilles Vignes " 2025 from Verget
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a pale, luminous hue, which may take on subtle golden highlights with time.
Nose
Remarkably elegant, the nose releases fragrances of white flowers and white-fleshed fruits. With aeration, delicate notes of quince and fresh almond emerge, underscored by a discreet brioche touch.
Palate
The palate charms with its supple, mouthwatering texture, perfectly balanced by a lovely natural tension. Energetic and precise, it stretches into a long, mineral finish, enhanced by fine chalky bitterness that lends remarkable definition.
Food and wine pairing
This great white wine pairs beautifully with poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce, seafood risotto or prime fish in a light sauce. It is also an excellent match for delicate starters such as scallop carpaccio or sea bass tartare.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this wine at a temperature between 11 and 12°C, and allowing it to breathe for one hour before serving. It can be enjoyed in its youth but will continue to develop favourably until around 2035.
The richness and mineral precision of a Viré-Clessé wine
The estate
Founded in 1990 in Sologny, in the heart of the Mâconnais, Maison Verget is an essential reference in Burgundy. Created by Jean-Marie Guffens, who still runs the estate today, this négociant house stands out for its singular approach: the exclusive purchase of grapes rather than wines. Assisted by Julien Desplans as technical director, the estate vinifies all of its cuvées in a single cellar with a level of exacting standards worthy of the greatest crus. The house takes great pride in revealing the mineral and authentic expression of Burgundy's terroirs, particularly those in the south of the region.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from a parcel of old vines around 70 years of age, farmed according to organic principles. Ideally located at the top of a hillside overlooking the village of Viré, this cool, late-ripening terroir borders the prestigious Quarts sector. The particularly stony soils give this wine from the Viré-Clessé appellation a unique identity, encouraging deep rooting and an intense mineral expression.
Vinification and ageing
The making of this wine relies on a rigorous selection of the first press juices. Fermentations start naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Both vinification and ageing take place in one-year-old barrels, a meticulous choice that structures the wine while preserving the brightness of the fruit. The wine then benefits from extended ageing on its lees, gaining in complexity and unctuousness.
