An exceptional Sancerre wine from Vincent Gaudry, born of ferruginous flint
The estate
Created in 1991 when Vincent Gaudry took over the family estate at just 16 years old, this Loire vineyard stands out for its early conversion to organic farming in 1993. Certified organic in 2002 and Demeter biodynamic in 2006, the estate covers 12 hectares in the Sancerre area. Vincent Gaudry has developed a recognized minimalist approach, favoring massal selection from century-old vines to express the authenticity of the Sancerre terroir.
The vineyard
This micro-cuvée comes from a 0.5-hectare plot located in the lieu-dit Les Bouloises in Saint-Satur, at the heart of the Sancerre appellation. Vines over 35 years old are planted on dense ferruginous flint soils at 350 meters above sea level. The terroir is so rocky that plowing is nearly impossible, bearing witness to the exceptional density of flint that defines this unique site.
Winemaking and aging
À mi-chemin 2022 benefits from traditional, old-school winmaking. After hand harvesting, the wine is vinified and aged for 24 months in oak barrels using methods from the last century. It is bottled by hand directly from the cask, without filtration or fining, each bottle receiving a unique handwritten label applied by Vincent Gaudry himself.
Grape variety
This Loire wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from vines over 35 years old.
