The estate
Founded in 1980 in Santenay, then developed into a négociant house in 1994, Maison Vincent Girardin is a key reference in Burgundy. Now overseeing around thirty hectares of its own vineyards, the estate stands out for its haute couture approach and organic viticulture. Since 2012, the estate and the brand have belonged to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois. Under the technical direction of Éric Germain, the house continues to showcase the finest terroirs of the Côte de Beaune, producing wines that combine purity, precision and respect for living soils.
The vineyard
The vines from which this wine originates are located in the renowned village of Meursault. More specifically, the "Les Charmes-Dessus" plot lies to the south of the village. With an average age of 55 years, the vines benefit from a fine south- and east-facing exposure. Their roots reach deep into a very stony clay-limestone terroir, perfectly drained and rich in iron. The vineyard is managed with great care, with Guyot pruning following the Poussard method, complemented by meticulous green work such as debudding, trellising and trimming.
Winemaking and aging
The making of this 2024 Meursault begins with hand-harvesting, followed by a rigorous double sorting, first in the vineyard and then at the winery. The grapes undergo slow, gentle pneumatic pressing. After a light settling process, the musts are transferred into 228-litre French oak barrels, 15% of which are new. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur naturally, driven by indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 18 months, without any lees stirring in order to preserve its tension. One month before bottling, the different barrels are blended together in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine is racked, lightly fined and filtered, then bottled in strict accordance with the lunar calendar.
