Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 Vincent Girardin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a bright, pale yellow hue, crossed by subtle golden or greenish highlights.

Nose
The bouquet opens with an intense minerality, evoking gunflint and chalk. It then reveals aromas of citrus and white-fleshed fruits such as pear and green apple, delicately underscored by floral touches and discreet woody notes.

Palate
The attack is broad, introducing a powerful wine carried by a very pure mineral backbone and perfectly integrated acidity. The finish offers remarkable persistence on saline and lemony notes.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great dry white wine for fine dining pairs wonderfully with noble fish in buttery sauces, shellfish such as pan-seared scallops, or poultry in a creamy mushroom sauce. It also goes very well with pressed, cooked-curd cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.

Service and Storage

With a fine structure, the Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 has excellent bottle-aging potential, allowing its texture and aromas to gain in complexity over the years.

The Mineral Expression of a Great White Wine from Puligny-Montrachet by Maison Vincent Girardin

The Estate

Vincent Girardin's winemaking journey began in 1980, but it was in 1994 that he officially founded his eponymous négociant house. Based in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy, Maison Vincent Girardin quickly established itself as a benchmark of the Côte de Beaune. A pioneer with its conversion to biodynamics as early as 1997, the house combines significant volumes with demanding, artisanal practices. Since 2012, the estate has belonged to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, which brilliantly continues the domaine's pure, mineral style under the technical direction of Éric Germain.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from the illustrious Puligny-Montrachet appellation, renowned for its exceptional terroirs. The vines, averaging forty years of age, thrive under a continental climate on limestone soils particularly conducive to expressing minerality. The vineyard is managed with great quality-driven rigour, favouring controlled yields and exclusively hand-picked harvests to preserve the integrity and freshness of the grapes.

Winemaking and Aging

Winemaking aims to preserve the vibrancy and aromatic purity of the juices while avoiding any premature oxidation. The Puligny-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 is carefully aged on the lees in oak barrels. The moderate use of new oak brings a harmonious structure and a touch of complexity without ever masking the mineral identity of the terroir.

Grape Variety

This wine is made from 100% Chardonnay.
