Vinous

Nicolas Greinacher

The 2024 Saint-Péray Les Potiers presents upfront lemon flesh, yellow apple, fresh pear and whiffs of pastry. Honeysuckle adds more aromatic lift. Touching the mid-bodied palate with evident, vivid lift, the 2024 is a lively Saint-Péray bundling well-set inner energy all the way through to the bright finish.

Yohan Castaing

Matured for nine months in a combination of foudres and barrels, the 2024 Saint-Péray Les Potiers is perfumed and lively, revealing aromas of white peach, confit citrus, linden blossom and white flowers. Moderately weighted and round, it is built around a juicy core of fruit, beautifully balanced and enhanced by delicate acidity, concluding with a fresh, harmonious finish. It's a classic rendition.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Saint-Péray "Les Potiers" 2024 by Yves Cuilleron

Tasting

Color
The color reveals a pale, clear yellow hue.

Nose
The bouquet opens with great aromatic freshness, blending notes of citrus, peach and apricot with delicate touches of white flowers and linden blossom. A mineral dimension of gunflint and flint intertwines with subtle nuances of honey and candied lemon.

Palate
The attack is lively and supple, offering a smooth and harmonious texture. The mid-palate unfolds with breadth, guided by a lovely mineral tension. The long, lingering finish stands out with saline and flinty notes.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs beautifully with delicate fish such as sole or halibut, a scallop carpaccio, or shellfish served with a light butter sauce. It also enhances white meats such as roast chicken breast or veal with lemon, as well as young cheeses like goat cheese or Comté.

Service and storage

For an optimal tasting of the "Les Potiers" 2024 vintage, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 8 and 12°C. It can be enjoyed in its youth and will ideally be at its best until around 2028.

The authentic expression of a great white wine from the Rhône Valley

The estate

Founded in 1920 by Claude Cuilleron, the family estate is located in Chavanay, at the heart of the Rhône Valley. Since 1987, Yves Cuilleron has been at the helm of the estate, now supported by Edgar Cuilleron. Starting from a vineyard of just a few hectares, he has managed to establish the estate among the region's leading references. His distinctive philosophy rejects conventional labels in favor of a pragmatic, tailor-made approach, simply aiming to produce the best possible grapes while respecting the authentic expression of each terroir.

The vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from the Saint-Péray appellation, located at the southernmost tip of the northern region. The plots lie on gentle slopes facing southwest, favoring optimal sun exposure. The soils are composed of alluvial deposits rich in rolled pebbles, providing excellent drainage and ideal heat retention. The vineyard is cultivated with minimal intervention, favoring natural grass cover and prohibiting the use of insecticides to preserve biodiversity. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, accompanied by rigorous sorting.

Winemaking and aging

For the "Les Potiers" 2024 cuvée, the pressed grapes undergo a twenty-four-hour settling period. Alcoholic fermentation, triggered by indigenous yeasts, and malolactic fermentation take place directly in wood. The wine is then aged on the lees for nine months, without racking or lees stirring, in order to preserve its aromatic freshness. The wine rests half in large 30-hectoliter wooden foudres and half in Burgundian barrels, before careful blending and light filtration prior to bottling.
