Description
A well-balanced and lively Tuscan red wine
The estate
Although the history of La Tenuta Guado al Tasso dates back to the late 1600s, it was in the 1930s that the Italian estate underwent a major development under the leadership of the estate's heiress, Carlotta Della Gherardesca Antinori, mother of Piero Antinori and sister of Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta's wife, owner of Tenuta San Guido.
Located in the prestigious Bolgheri DOC, Tenuta Antinori - Guado al Tasso is an emblematic reference point among fine Bolgheri Superiore due to the quality and elegance of its wines.
The vineyard
Tenuta Antinori-Guado al Tasso reigns over a vineyard of around 320 hectares of vines. This area benefits from its proximity to the sea, whose mild climate, sunshine and constant breezes regulate both the summer heat and the cold winters. The vineyards are planted on alluvial soils typical of the region, sandy-clay to silty-clay and rich in fine gravel. This unique soil formation leads to the production of aromatically rich and bold wines.
The wine
Cont'Ugo d'Antinori - Guado al Tasso is a Bolgheri wine made exclusively from vineyards planted on silt and clay soils.
The vintage
Although the cool conditions of April slowed down the vegetative cycle, the mild temperatures throughout the following months enabled the vines to catch up and ensured a gradual and optimal ripening until the harvest.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and are carefully sorted before fermentation in steel tanks. Maceration for a period of approximately 20 days. After racking, the wine is put into barrels (1/3 of which are new) for malolactic fermentation. Blending of the best batches before an initial 12-month ageing period in barrels and then in bottles for more than a year before marketing.
The blend
Merlot (100%).
