Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Jacquesson "Cuvée 744" Dégorgement Tardif
Tasting
Appearance
This white Champagne has a pale gold colour with subtle golden highlights, enhanced by a fine, steady and creamy mousse.
Nose
The complex bouquet blends notes of orchard fruit, ripe citrus and dried white flowers. With aeration, tertiary aromas of fresh bread, brioche, gingerbread, coffee and delicate hints of smoke unfold elegantly.
Palate
The attack is lively and precise, leading into a delicate, silky texture. The palate stands out for its great tension and pronounced chalky structure, stretching into a long, mineral and remarkably mouth-watering finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with shellfish, fine fish such as turbot or sea bass, and roast poultry. It also elevates exceptional dishes such as lobster, pan-seared foie gras or truffle-based dishes.
Serving and Cellaring
To enjoy the non-vintage "Cuvée 744" Dégorgement Tardif at its best, serve it at a temperature of between 8 and 10°C, ideally in tulip-shaped glasses. Already very expressive, this wine can be enjoyed now, but its structure will allow it to develop gracefully in the cellar until around 2035.
The Complexity and Tension of a Terroir-Driven Champagne from Jacquesson
The Estate
Founded in 1798 in Châlons-sur-Marne, the House of Jacquesson quickly established itself as a benchmark in Champagne, winning over even Napoleon I. Now based in Dizy, it farms 36 hectares of vineyards. Since the end of 2022, the estate has belonged to the Artémis Domaines group, owned by the Pinault and Henriot La Rouzière families. Under the leadership of Jean Garandeau, Jacquesson continues to uphold a demanding philosophy focused on plot-by-plot expression, controlled yields and minimal-intervention winemaking, producing vinous wines of authentic character.
The Vineyard
The estate spans prestigious terroirs classified as Grands Crus and Premiers Crus within Champagne. The vines are divided between the Grande Vallée de la Marne (Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers, Champillon) and the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Oiry). Rooted in soils where chalk is omnipresent, sometimes outcropping or covered with silt and clay, the vineyard has been certified organic since 2010. The soils are either ploughed or grassed over to moderate the vigour of the vines and encourage mineral expression.
The Blend
This cuvée is built around the 2016 harvest, a year marked by a challenging start to the season followed by a hot, dry summer that yielded grapes of remarkable ripeness. The blend comprises 55% grapes from the Grande Vallée de la Marne and 45% from the Côte des Blancs. It is completed by 30% reserve wines from previous cuvées (743 to 736, with the exception of 738).
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes are gently pressed so that only the first juices are retained. Vinification and initial ageing on the lees take place in large oak foudres, with no fining or filtration. The non-vintage "Cuvée 744" Dégorgement Tardif then undergoes an extended maturation of 92 months sur lattes under cork, encouraging slow micro-oxygenation. Disgorgement took place in February 2025.
Grape Varieties
The blend is predominantly Chardonnay, complemented by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
